ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, having prepared lesson plans accordingly.

A Swim Instructor at British Swim School teaches swim lessons to children and adults, starting at 3 months old using our fun, gentle and progressive methods. You will receive extensive training to build your confidence and ability to work with a variety of swimmers and abilities. Having fun and interacting with our swimmers is an important part of the role! A strong focus is placed on providing survival swim techniques living out the British Swim School mission and making a big impact on decreasing drowning. Your Typical Responsibilities:

<li>Support the Aquatics Leader and/or Business Owner(s)</li>
<li>Follow British Swim Schools curriculum to ensure safe and competent lessons and environment.</li>
<li>Work evenings (3:15 pm - 7:45 pm), and holidays as required by business needs.</li>
<li>Maintain certifications throughout employment.</li>
<li>Work in an environment where noise levels are usually moderate to high and stand in the water for up to 5 consecutive hours.</li>
</ul>
Minimum Qualifications: 
<ul>
<li>High school diploma, or equivalent preferred</li>
<li>Enthusiastic personality.</li>
<li>Comfortable in and around the water. Strong swimming skills are a plus but can be taught and developed!</li>
<li>Must maintain certifications throughout the length of employment.</li>
<li>Must complete all required British Swim School Aquatics-specific training and testing.</li>
</ul>
 Preferred Qualifications: 
<ul>
<li>Experience working with children.</li>
<li>Swimming experience: 1-2 years preferred but not required.</li>
<li>Customer service skills: 1 year preferred.</li>
<li>Lifeguarding/First Aid/CPR/AED Certification(s) preferred (but can be obtained during training)</li>

Responsibilities:

<li>Monitor pool area to ensure a safe and positive environment for all swimmers</li>
<li>Enforce all pool rules and safety procedures</li>
<li>Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies and perform water rescues as needed</li>
<li>Complete safety checks and maintain accurate incident reports</li>
<li>Arrive on time and in proper uniform for every scheduled shift</li>
<li>Attend required staff trainings and in-service sessions</li>
<li>Find and report shift coverage in case of absence</li>
</ul>
Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Willing to complete lifeguard certification (YMCA or Red Cross accepted)</li>
<li>Preferred: CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, First Aid, Emergency Oxygen</li>
<li>Ability to stay alert and act calmly in high-pressure situations</li>
<li>Strong communication skills and a team-first attitude</li>
<li>Must meet physical requirements of lifeguarding (swimming, endurance, etc.)</li>
