Group Leader - 2nd Shift

Job Summary/Objective:

The Group Leader is responsible for managing and overseeing daily production line operations within the DRY, WET, and Bakery departments. This role entails ensuring productivity, quality control, and adherence to safety standards. The Group Leader collaborates closely with the Senior Group Leader and/or Production Supervisor to maintain a safe, efficient, and high-quality production environment, ensuring that all products meet or exceed company and industry standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Production Management:
    • Oversee the setup and operation of equipment required for batch production.
    • Monitor and maintain the quality of raw materials, with attention to key attributes such as color, consistency, aroma, and texture; report any deviations to the manager or supervisor.
    • Assign daily job tasks to department employees, ensuring efficient workflow and task completion.
    • Ensure all necessary raw materials are available for daily production, coordinating with inventory control through the JDE system.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Provide team members with guidance on quality control procedures, machine operations, and batch-making processes.
    • Accurately complete and maintain all required production documentation in a timely manner.
    • Perform and document label and quality checks consistently throughout the production process.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Understand and enforce all safety rules and procedures, maintaining a clean and safe working environment.
    • Ensure proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including hairnets, beard nets, earplugs, safety shoes, and uniforms as required.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Coach and mentor associates on production procedures, ensuring adherence to GMP and food safety policies.
    • Manage personnel to ensure adequate coverage during breaks and vacations.
    • Monitor and improve production efficiencies, proactively addressing potential issues to minimize downtime.

Competencies:

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Effective communication skills, with proficiency in English, capable of conveying instructions clearly.
  • Ability to operate material handling equipment, including electric pallet jacks and manual hand jacks.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and manage a team to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Proficient in using Outlook for inter-departmental communication.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct supervision of department employees, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards and timely task completion.

Work Environment:

  • Indoor manufacturing environment with exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and machinery.
  • Required use of PPE such as hairnets, beard nets, earplugs, safety shoes, and uniforms.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk on concrete floors for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, lifting, and twisting; capable of lifting up to 50 lbs.

Position Type:

  • Full-Time

Work Hours:

  • Flexible work hours with varying shifts; availability for overtime and weekend work as needed to meet production demands.
  • Second shift hours: TBD (potential 3pm start time)

Travel:

  • No travel required.

Required Education & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Willingness to work varying shifts and schedules as necessary.
  • Successful completion of substance and physical screening.
  • Successful completion of math and English language proficiency exams.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in food production.
  • Training in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), allergen handling, wash-down procedures, food defense, and HACCP principles.
  • Forklift experience with classroom certification.

Compensation:

The typical starting salary range for this position is $22.46 - $31.25/an hour. Several factors, including skills, experience, education, certifications, and the location of the job will determine the actual pay offered. The salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for associates in these positions.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
