The Tennis Instructor / Camp Photographer plays a dual role in creating meaningful, memorable, and enriching experiences for campers at Sandy Island. This position combines active engagement on the tennis courts with creative documentation of camp life through photography. As Tennis Instructor, this person leads and organizes tennis programming for campers of all ages and skill levels—creating a fun, encouraging environment while helping participants improve their tennis fundamentals and enjoy the game. As Camp Photographer, this person documents daily life and special moments at camp by capturing photos of all activities, both indoor and outdoor. This includes, but is not limited to, arrivals and departures, waterfront and beach activities, weekly softball games, evening programs, talent shows, and dances. The photographer also provides portrait sessions upon request and manages the posting of photos to social media and camper-accessible sites for viewing and purchase.This position is ideal for a creative, energetic, and organized individual who enjoys working closely with people and can balance instructional and artistic responsibilities. Key ResponsibilitiesTennis InstructionLead daily tennis sessions for adults and children.Provide age-appropriate coaching to develop serving, volleying, and overall gameplay skills.Foster good sportsmanship, teamwork, and enjoyment of the sport.Maintain tennis equipment and ensure courts are safe and clean.Adapt instruction to match various ages and skill levels.Encourage participation and build positive relationships with campers. Photography & MediaCapture high-quality images of camp activities, events, and community life.Manage and organize digital photo files for internal use and camper access.Provide portrait sessions for campers and families upon request.Post regularly to social media channels, ensuring appropriate and positive representation of camp.Establish and maintain a photo purchasing system accessible to campers and families. Specific Responsibilities:OrganizationDevelop and implement action plans and procedures relevant to the role.Be a self-starter and take initiative in both program and media areas.CulturePut people first—support new and returning community members including campers, parents, families, alumni, donors, staff, and volunteers.Foster good morale and well-being within the camp community.Support international staff and campers.Demonstrate attention to detail in crafting excellent experiences in all we do.SafetySupport incident report management and uphold community safety standards.Demonstrate stewardship for the future through care of equipment and camp resources.Maintain and respect community boundaries for a safe environment. Essential FunctionsLive onsite during the camp season.Support approximately 180 campers and 60 staff members, six to seven days per week for ten weeks.Participate actively in camp life and be a positive presence throughout the community.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise· Full-Time Availability for the Camping Season Beginning 2 Saturdays before July 4 and ending Labor Day· Must be at least 16 years of age· Desire and ability to work with in a camp setting· Strong attention to detail, cleanliness and follow through· Passion for people, a willingness to serve· Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
QualificationsExperience in tennis instruction, coaching, or active play preferred.Proficiency in photography, including the use of personal DSLR or mirrorless camera equipment.Strong organizational and communication skills.Energetic, patient, and able to balance multiple responsibilities.Prior experience working with children, families, or in a camp setting preferred. CompensationRoom and board are provided in addition to a salary commensurate with experience.
