REGISTERED PHARMACY TECHNICIAN TRAINEE ASSEMBLY

DEPARTMENT: RESIDENT CARE

REPORTS TO: PHARMACY MANAGER, DIR. OF PHARMACY, PHARMACIST ON DUTY

JOB CATEGORY: Non-exempt

JOB SUMMARY:

The Registered Pharmacy Technician Trainee Assembly supports pharmacists and technicians by preparing medications for labeling, maintaining order and cleanliness of pharmacy, assisting with inventory management and distribution of completed medication orders to visiting nurses and facilities who pick-up orders at Resident Care or who receive deliveries. Throughout all interactions the Pharmacy Technician Trainee must maintain a high level of professionalism and present the organization in the best light possible. They are expected to deliver exceptional care and service to our external and internal customers, maintain the highest levels of compliance possible while helping to maximize the productivity of Resident Care Pharmacy. The Registered Pharmacy Technician Trainee Assembly will meet these goals by the timely completion of their assigned duties and responsibilities listed below.

To work in conjunction with Pharmacists and other technicians & staff to accurately process all prescriptions and to assist Pharmacists in all aspects of the pharmacy daily routines.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Reliable and dependable attendance is mandatory
  • Must meet the Fundamental Performance Standards of the Company
  • Must possess general office skills such as typing and filing
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Candidate must be at least 18 years of age, as mandated by law.
  • Must be currently registered by the Board of Pharmacy.
  • Maintain on-going licensure with the Board of Pharmacy.
  • One year experience in pharmacy environment.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer and mathematical skills.
  • Pleasant telephone manner.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be willing to work in Drug-Free work environment, (including marijuana).
  • Must pass required pre-employment drug screen, (including marijuana).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Be present, as scheduled, on time and able to perform all duties & responsibilities deemed appropriate by the bench Pharmacist.
  2. Accurately and efficiently count medications and prepare for Pharmacist’s inspection.
  3. Obtain and/or verify all information concerning prescriptions.
  4. Fill prescriptions and assist pharmacist(s) as set forth by 247CMR8.04
  5. Answer incoming phone calls in a professional and courteous manner, screen calls and take appropriate action.
  6. Tag & put away daily order, making sure new bottles are placed behind old bottles and informing the Pharmacist of any outages, overstock, etc. Sort invoices & place in appropriate bins.
  7. Assist in cashiering duties when the cashier/clerk is unavailable or busy.
  8. Relay "offer to counsel" to patient or responsible person.
  9. Accurately sort and file prescriptions and delivery manifests and other reports.
  10. Run appropriate reports when due. Call & process patient prescriptions based on reports.
  11. Checking shelves for expiring medications to be pulled & separated for returns.
  12. Ensure adequate stock of supplies.
  13. May request refill authorizations from a prescriber or prescriber's agent and with the approval of the Pharmacist on duty, receive new prescription information.
  14. May perform Rx transfers between pharmacies or pharmacy departments for schedule VI Rx's only with the approval of the Pharmacist on duty.
  15. Responsible for restocking and replenishing pharmacy supplies including vials, Rx labels, paper, etc. as needed.
  16. Responsible for general cleaning duties as assigned which may include dusting, cleaning shelves & counters, sweeping floors & emptying trash. Keeping workstation clean & orderly during and after each shift.
  17. Keep track of owed medications and any pending deliveries for the day.
  18. Retrieve voice messages on refill lines throughout the workday.
  19. Perform any other tasks as requested by Pharmacists.
