The Phlebotomist is responsible for collecting blood specimens from patients of all age groups using venipuncture, heelstick, and fingerstick techniques. This role ensures accurate labeling, processing, and documentation of specimens while maintaining a high standard of patient care and safety.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and verify identity prior to specimen collection.
- Perform blood draws using aseptic techniques on infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults, completing 50-60 draws per day.
- Label and process specimens accurately and promptly.
- Maintain and stock phlebotomy stations and exam rooms with necessary supplies.
- Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and quality assurance protocols.
- Enter test orders and patient data into the laboratory information system.
- Assist with specimen transport and coordination with laboratory staff.
- Provide compassionate care and reassurance to patients during procedures.
- Participate in training, quality improvement, and team meetings.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in phlebotomy and venipuncture techniques.
- Experience with EPIC and data entry.
- Understanding of medical terminology.
- Ability to provide patient care and manage electronic medical records.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Certification (e.g., ASCP, NHA) preferred.
- Minimum of 1 year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical setting preferred.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.00 - $24.00/hr.
