Job SummaryThe Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians and healthcare providers in a primary care setting. Acting as the main point of contact between patients and the practice, this position ensures seamless communication, efficient patient flow, and adherence to clinical protocols. The Medical Assistant also coordinates patient scheduling, assists with examinations and procedures, and manages patient records and data in accordance with office policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patient medical records in accordance with office protocol (e.g., lab results, allergy updates, correspondence)
- Greet and prepare patients for examination, including assisting elderly patients with gowning and positioning
- Perform CLIA-waived tests as directed, including:
- Phlebotomy
- Electrocardiograms (EKG)
- Blood glucose (glucometer) tests
- Spirometry
- Administer point-of-care testing (POCT), A1C checks, and vaccinations
- Measure and record vital signs including blood pressure, temperature, height, weight, pulse, and respirations
- Perform vision screenings
- Maintain treatment rooms and ensure clinical equipment is clean and functional
- Manage clinical inventory and reorder supplies as needed
- Register patients, verify insurance coverage and referrals
- Schedule appointments and coordinate calendars with clinical staff
- Answer and direct phone calls appropriately
- Act as liaison between the practice and external support services
- Participate in virtual interviews as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Primary care experience is mandatory
- Proficiency in clinical tasks such as POCT, EKGs, blood sugar checks, and vaccine administration
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Comfortable with both patient-facing and clerical responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using EPIC electronic health record system (highly preferred)
- Prior authorization experience (a plus, but not required)
Certifications
- None specified; applicable clinical training/certifications preferred
