Job Summary:
The Deli Manager oversees the daily operations of the deli department, ensuring high standards of food quality, customer service, and sanitation. This role is responsible for supervising staff, managing inventory, controlling costs, and driving sales through effective merchandising and customer engagement.
We are open 7 days a week, 9am to 6pm, including all holidays except Christmas, Easter, and Thanksgiving. We are looking for a full-time deli manager (about 40-45 hours per week is typically what our managers are scheduled for). Shifts are either 8am-2pm/3pm (morning), 1pm-7pm (afternoon), or 8am-7pm ("all day"). All of our managers typically work 2 "all day" shifts per week, one of which is on the weekends, in order to hit their hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate deli staff to ensure efficient operations and excellent customer service.
- Maintain high standards for food quality, freshness, and presentation.
- Ensure all food safety, sanitation, and health guidelines are strictly followed.
- Manage inventory levels and order deli products to minimize waste and maximize profitability.
- Plan and execute attractive deli displays and promotions.
- Monitor sales trends and implement strategies to improve department performance.
- Ensure proper labeling, rotation, and storage of all deli products.
- Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints professionally and promptly.
- Track and report on department expenses, shrink, and labor.
- Ensure all deli equipment is cleaned, maintained, and functioning properly.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; culinary or food service education is a plus.
- 2+ years of deli, food service, or grocery store experience; 1+ year in a supervisory or management role preferred.
- Strong knowledge of food safety regulations and standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic math and computer skills (e.g., POS systems, inventory tracking).
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and walking in cold/hot environments.
