Registered Nurse - First Surgical Assistant (Nursing)
Flu vaccine required for new staff starting 9/2(declinations not accepted).
Local candidates not accepted
Cannot have worked perm/travel/PRN for any Beth Israel facility within the past 6 months
Current MA RN license,
BLS required,
CNOR preferred ,
Successful completion of additional education preparation specific to the role of RNFA including a supervised clinical component
Experience: At least two-three years of work as an operating room nurse required. Must have demonstrated clinical competency in the appropriate nursing practice as a RN Firsts Assistant. Evidence of this includes: effective communication, ability to problem solve, ability to get along well with others, strong knowledge base for specialty service, and strong passion for nursing practice and drive to delivering the highest quality patient care. Must demonstrate clinical competency in first assisting the surgeon (ie. hemostasis techniques, suturing, retracting etc.)
Essential Duties & Responsibilities including but not limited to:
1.Administers nursing care within the scope of hospital policies and procedures, Massachusetts state regulations and standards of practice issued by the American Nurses Association.
2.Serves as role model practitioner in compliance with established practice standards, policies, procedures, protocols, guidelines, statutes and regulations as it relates to service specialty. (e.g., DPH, Joint Commission, Fire Code, AORN, OSHA, DEA, etc.)
3.Collaborates and works in a team setting and shares the hospital CREATE values
4.Consistently maintains a courteous, helpful, and professional manner with all interactions with all patients, their families and staff members.
5.Assists co-workers with tasks to help meet the needs of the Perioperative Services to ensure efficiency and patient flow.
6.Acts as an advocate for patients and their families. Delivers care in a manner that preserves/protects patient autonomy, dignity, confidentiality, and rights.
7.Understands the legal implications of charting and documentation of patient care.
8.In emergency/crisis situations, demonstrates effective decision making and prioritizing patient needs to initiate appropriate responses.
9.Participates in the quality improvement/ quality assurance process at the unit level.
10.Checks the operative schedule in advance to preclude any conflicts of RNFA scheduling needs and communicates to Clinical Coordinator.
11.Uses surgical instruments safely and correctly.
12.Applies safe tissue handling, dissection, or cutting techniques based on assessment of tissue location, type, and patient’s health status.
13.Considers anatomical and physiological implications when selecting, placing, and moving retractors to provide surgical site exposure to reduce injury.
14. Demonstrates proficiency in knot-tying techniques and chooses suture material and tech
