The Machine Setup Operator plays a vital role in our precision manufacturing process. You will be responsible for planning and building complex car configurations, ensuring products—such as ceramics and abrasives—are expertly stacked and prepared for high-temperature firing in kilns and furnaces. This role blends technical blueprint reading with hands-on material handling to ensure our production schedule stays on track and our quality remains top-tier.

Shift: 4:30 AM – 1:00 PM

Pay Range: $23.40 – $25.00/hour

Responsibilities Include

  • Kiln Preparation: Plan and build car configurations, stacking products in specific patterns on racks and platforms for tunnel or periodic kilns.
  • Technical Assembly: Utilize manufacturing instructions to apply deck batts, blocks, clamps, and fillers to secure products for the firing process.
  • Production Scheduling: Select products based on specific burn types and dates to align with the firing schedule.
  • Product Extraction: Draw finished products from kilns manually or by utilizing hoists and truck cars.
  • Quality Inspection: Move products to stripping areas and perform thorough visual inspections for defects.
  • Inventory & Logistics: Maintain an organized workflow and perform other related duties as assigned to support the manufacturing team.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Technical Skills: Ability to read blueprints and perform intermediate math.
  • Precision Tools: Proficiency in using measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, and measuring tapes in both standard and metric units.
  • Physical Capability: Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; must be able to repetitively lift or move up to 50 lbs without assistance.
  • Visual Acuity: Strong close vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception are required for inspection and safety.
  • Environmental Adaptability: Comfortable working near moving mechanical parts and in environments that may occasionally include heat, fumes, or dust (PPE provided).
