Position Summary:
TScan Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotech seeking to revolutionize life-changing therapeutics for patients by identifying novel T cells and epitopes. We are looking for an IT professional to join our team as Senior Systems Administrator. Reporting to the Senior IT Infrastructure Manager, this role will be a hands-on technical expert responsible for maintaining and supporting the company’s IT systems with a special focus on laboratory IT and GxP compliance. This role will require on-site presence and flexibility to work out of both of TScan’s locations (830 and 880 Winter Street in Waltham, MA). A team player with a sense of urgency will thrive in this role.
Responsibilities:
- Infrastructure Support & Systems Management
- Administer and troubleshoot Windows and Linux servers, Active Directory (AD), Group Policy, file shares, and virtualization platforms
- Serve as the point person for laboratory IT systems
- Manage and support lab computer systems (instrument control PCs, lab network segments, and related software) in accordance with GxP requirements
- Work with science team and external vendors on lab system implementations or upgrades and support validation of new lab IT solutions, and maintain validation status of lab systems
- Maintain detailed IT documentation, especially for lab systems and GxP-related IT processes
- Assist in audit readiness efforts
- Security Alignment
- Implement and enforce IT security controls under the guidance of the security team (patch management for servers and lab endpoints, antivirus/EDR administration, and vulnerability scanning & remediation efforts)
- Conduct regular privileged access and permission reviews
- Backup and DR Operations
- Oversee data backup routines and disaster recovery preparedness for critical systems
- Perform periodic restore tests for both enterprise and lab systems to ensure business continuity plans are effective
- Network & Firewall Support
- Assist with network infrastructure tasks such as firewall rule reviews, switch/AP configurations, VLAN segmentation, and general network troubleshooting as needed
- Act as a backup to the Infrastructure Manager for network changes, helping to document configurations and responding to network issues
- Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to automate or streamline IT operations, especially for repetitive tasks (e.g. script routine maintenance or deployment activities)
- Propose and implement enhancements that improve system efficiency, security, or reliability
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5-7+ years of experience in IT system administration, preferably at an MSP or in a biopharmaceutical environment
- Experience supporting GxP laboratory systems or validated environments is highly desired
- Strong hands-on expertise with Windows Server, Linux (Ubuntu or other distributions), Active Directory, and virtualization technologies
- Familiarity with enterprise backup solutions and disaster recovery planning
- Working knowledge of networking fundamentals (firewalls, switches, VPNs, VLANs) and ability to assist in network troubleshooting and configuration
- Solid understanding of IT security principles and practices
- Excellent documentation skills with experience following change control processes and maintaining system SOPs
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Demonstrated communication and collaboration skills
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
