Summary:
The MWRA Process Control Department has an opening for a summer internship. The Process Control Department provides technical support for the operation and maintenance of the MWRA Deer Island Treatment Plant, one of the largest treatment plants in the United States.
Posting Period: 1/22/2026 to 2/4/2026
Location: Deer Island (Winthrop), MA
Salary: $19 - $22 per hour
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:00pm
Key Responsibilities
- Assists in the preparation and updating of Deer Island Operations and Maintenance manuals.
- Field checks Process Schematics and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.
- Assists with the Deer Island tour program.
- Reviews and evaluates data to monitor plant performance, process goals, and plant efficiencies.
- Utilizes spreadsheets, databases, and other types of software to enter/import data, create, and modify reports.
- Performs readings for air emissions compliance requirements and for odor control treatment monitoring.
- Performs sample collection of air, wastewater, sludge, or other materials as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications
- Completed at least 2 years of college in engineering (environmental, chemical, or civil preferred), biology, chemistry, or related field.
- Must currently be enrolled in a degree program or recently graduated from a degree program within the last six months.
- Strong writing skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Internship duration: May-August
