SUMMARY

Reporting to the Divisional Director or VP of Operations, the Pharmacist-in-Charge (PIC) plays a critical role in ensuring both federal and state regulatory compliance as well overseeing operational best practices. The primary responsibilities of the PIC involve supervising and providing guidance to licensed pharmacists and other managerial staff and maintaining focus on both customer service and patient care.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

The PIC should be able to perform all functions of a staff pharmacist as well as those functions listed below.

  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations governing pharmacy operations.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the pharmacy, including prescription dispensing, medication counseling, and patient care services.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all pharmacy transactions, including prescription orders, inventory management, and controlled substance dispensing.
  • Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the pharmacy.
  • Provide guidance and support to pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, and other personnel, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and training to pharmacy staff to enhance their skills and ensure consistent high-quality service.
  • Oversee the inventory manager, ensuring medication inventory levels are adequate while minimizing waste.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and other stakeholders to resolve any medication-related issues or concerns.
  • Handle customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints, providing excellent customer service and ensuring timely resolution.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, new medications, and regulatory changes affecting pharmacy practice, and implement necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
  • Participate in pharmacy quality improvement initiatives and drive continuous improvement in operational efficiency and patient care outcomes.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify and address any potential compliance or safety issues.
  • Maintain a safe and clean working environment, ensuring adherence to infection control and safety protocols.

Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:?

Education & Experience: Doctorate of Pharmacy; Active State Pharmacist license, State license to handle medication; and 1-3 years of pharmaceutical experience; or an equivalent mix of education and experience, 2-4 years long term care pharmacy experience preferred.

Computer Skills: Intermediate proficiency with Pharmacy and medication distribution software (Pyxis Medbank, Frameworks, Experience with long term care pharmacy software preferred.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as medication documentation, business correspondence and procedure manuals; ability to write routine reports and business correspondence; ability to speak effectively, both in person and by telephone, to customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs; ability to understand and interpret statistical reports, data charts and graphs.

The regular work schedule for this position is approximately 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) and may require additional hours/overtime as necessary. Must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception, Ability to adjust focus and Ability to match or detect differences between colors, including shades of color and brightness. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, bend, and walk.
