Job Summary/Objective

The Food Safety and Quality Assurance (FSQA) Supervisor oversees the daily 2nd shift activities required by the food safety and quality assurance programs, supporting the production of safe, high-quality products that meet Bake’n Joy’s specifications and consumer expectations. This hands-on role involves monitoring the FSQA technicians, providing guidance to production staff, and ensuring compliance with Bake’n Joy FSQA policies and procedures along with regulatory requirements. The FSQA Supervisor collaborates closely with Production, Warehouse, R&D, and Scheduling to maintain the food safety and quality program.

Essential Functions

Food Safety and Compliance

  • Monitor compliance with local, city, state, and federal food safety regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with the requirements documented in the facility’s food safety/HACCP plans, including critical control points and critical quality points.
  • Assist in management of the SQF systems as the substitute SQF practitioner.
  • Serve as an onsite PCQI in the absence of FSQA Manager.
  • Assist in internal and external regulatory and certification audits (e.g., FDA, SQF, customer audits, etc.), including executing corrective actions.
  • Oversee compliance with key programs in coordination with Bake’n Joy Operations and Sanitation.
  • Review compliance and verification documentation to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Quality Assurance and Customer Service

  • Carry out mock recalls and trace exercises. Assist the Crisis Management Team during product recall execution.
  • Participate in the investigation and resolution of customer issues and complaints related to product quality.
  • Ensure the collection of statistical data related to product quality and performance.
  • Carry out inspections, testing, and analyses according to documented criteria and procedures.
  • Maintain FSQA documents and records.
  • Oversee compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and assist in the application of regulatory developments.
  • Provide regular updates to Management and stakeholders.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Provide guidance and mentorship to FSQA Technicians.
  • Serves as the immediate subject matter expert on food safety and quality for production and warehouse staff.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of food safety training programs.
  • Participate actively in internal continuous improvement teams.

Materials and Inventory Management

  • Oversee the calibration and testing program to maintain product quality.
  • Support procurement needs and manage the inspection of incoming raw materials and packaging.

Work Environment

  • Split time between working in an office environment and production areas.
  • Exposure to varying temperatures, noise levels, and production environments.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.

Position Type

  • Full-Time

Work Hours

  • Typical hours are Monday to Friday, 3:30 PM to 1:30 AM.
  • Some flexibility is required for production schedule and deadlines.
  • Some potential for weekend shifts

Travel

  • Minimal. Potentially between Bake’n Joy manufacturing locations in southern NH and northern MA.

Required Education & Experience

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in food science, microbiology, or a related field, OR
  • 3 – 5 years of experience in a food manufacturing or laboratory setting.
  • Experience working with and as part of a diverse team.
  • Knowledge of food product, processing, packaging, and specification requirements.

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Experience in FDA/USDA regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of GFSI audit schemes.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus.
  • Auditing experience.
