A critical care nursing role is available on a cardiac step-down unit specializing in telemetry patients. This contract position offers the opportunity to work in a progressive cardiac medical unit handling complex cardiovascular and medical-surgical cases.
This position is based in Portsmouth, NH, at a hospital recognized as a STEMI center, stroke center, and Level II trauma center. The unit features 20 beds with a patient ratio of 5:1 and uses the Meditech Expanse documentation system. The cardiac step-down unit cares for patients from intermediate care units and stroke overflow, with advanced cardiac and respiratory management cases such as chest tubes, high-flow and BiPAP, thoracentesis, pacemakers, cardiac catheterizations, and CIWA protocols.
Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring telemetry cardiac patients with advanced skills in cardiac and respiratory procedures
- Safely managing complex cardiac cases without post-cath lab patients unless radial artery access is used
- Providing bedside shift rounds and thorough handoffs to ensure seamless patient care
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams within a well-staffed unit consisting of four RN teams, licensed nursing assistants, and a unit clerk
- Utilizing IV pumps, Sara Steadys, Kangroo pumps, and other specialized equipment
- Adhering to all professional dress codes and hospital policies
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Registered Nurse with proficiency in telemetry nursing
- Advanced cardiac care experience including thoracentesis, peritoneal dialysis (PD), tracheostomies, and pacemaker management
- Current certifications in ASLS and BLS required
- Ability to work a schedule of three 12-hour shifts plus every other weekend or four-week shifts
- Commitment to maintaining high patient care standards in a fast-paced critical care environment
