Job Description

Job DescriptionThe CompanyTutor Intelligence is building the technology and processes to let robots go where they’ve never gone before: the average American factory. We understand that general-purpose and generally-intelligent robots are going to be built in our lifetimes, and we’re combining human and artificial intelligence to lead the charge. As an AI and robotics company that deploys its inventions directly into the facilities that need them, every decision made at Tutor has a direct impact on the global, physical economy.
The RoleWe’re looking for our first Engineering Manager to help Tutor's engineers do their best work. This person will partner with the CTO and collaborate with technical leads across hardware and software to drive execution, maintain clarity, and help the team deliver ambitious goals on time.
You’ll own the rhythm of engineering at Tutor: building processes that actually work, keeping engineers unblocked and accountable, and fostering an environment where focus, iteration, and learning thrive. You’ll need to be comfortable working across disciplines, quick to understand new technologies, and motivated by the satisfaction of helping complex systems (and teams) run smoothly.Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering roles, with at least 2 years in an engineering management or team lead capacity
  • Background in software, hardware, or robotics development, with the ability to quickly understand systems across the stack
  • Demonstrated success building and supporting high-performing technical teams
  • Strong organizational instincts and ability to manage complex, multi-threaded engineering efforts
  • Experience introducing and refining engineering processes in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Comfortable working closely with technical leads, operations, and leadership to keep teams aligned and unblocked
  • Curious, hands-on mindset—willing to dive in and learn new domains when needed

Nice to haves (zero or more)

  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams (software, hardware, and robotics)
  • Background in robotics, industrial automation, or manufacturing tech
  • Prior startup or early-stage experience standing up engineering process from scratch
  • Technical depth in one or more areas of Tutor’s stack (e.g. motion planning, ML infrastructure, frontend/backend systems)
  • Familiarity with modern project management and collaboration tools (Linear, Notion, GitHub, etc.)

All offers include generous equity, fully covered health + dental, and unlimited PTO.
