Job Description

Summary

Central Vermont Medical Center is seeking a dedicated and skilled Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our growing outpatient endocrinology clinic in Berlin, VT.


In this ambulatory care role the PA/NP will work in collaboration with a supportive team of endocrinologists, nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff to deliver high-quality, coordinated, and comprehensive care for common and complex endocrine disorders. The PA/NP will oversee their own panel of patients to assess, diagnose, and treat endocrine conditions and offer patient education and lifestyle counseling.


This is a 1.0 FTE exempt position which includes 32 patient-facing clinical hours and 8 hours of non face-to-face clinical time each week.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive endocrine assessments, including history taking, physical exams, and interpretation of diagnostic testing
  • Manage and monitor chronic endocrine conditions such as diabetes, thyroid conditions, adrenal conditions, osteoporosis, hormone replacement therapy, lipid therapy
  • Initiate, adjust, and monitor medications in accordance with evidence-based guidelines and scope of practice.
  • Provide patient education on lifestyle modifications, medication adherence, risk factor management, and disease prevention.
  • Coordinate care across specialties and services, including pre- and post-procedure follow-up, referrals, and testing.
  • Document clinical findings, treatment plans, and progress notes accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.


Experience

  • 3 – 5 years direct patient care experience required
  • 1 – 2 years clinical PA/NP experience preferred
  • The ideal candidate will have prior experience in endocrinology with insulin pumps and CGMs, and/or experience in internal medicine
  • New PA/NP graduates with prior direct patient care experience and clinical rotations in endocrinology who demonstrate strong interest in the field may be considered


Education

PA: Completion of an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) approved program (prior to January 2001 – Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs). Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required.

NP: Completion of a master's, post-master's, or doctorate from a nurse practitioner program accredited by the Commission on Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). Current certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or an equivalent body is required.
