Job DescriptionDescription:

Do you want your work to truly matter? Healthcare for the Homeless is seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Certified Medical Assistant / Prior Authorization Specialist (CMA/PAS) to support providers delivering high-quality, dignified care to individuals experiencing homelessness, housing instability, or limited access to healthcare. This is a 30 hour/week position and is benefits eligibile.


In this role, you’ll combine hands-on clinical support with care coordination and prior authorization work, helping remove barriers so patients can access the care they need.


Responsibilities:

· Support providers during patient visits, exams, and procedures, including preparation, assistance, and post-procedure monitoring

· Obtain and document vital signs, patient history, medications, allergies, and preventative care information

· Prepare exam rooms and instrument trays, including sterile procedures

· Perform point-of-care testing, specimen handling, and lab processing in accordance with CLIA and program guidelines

· Administer vaccines and assist with diagnostic testing (EKG, hearing, vision, breathing tests) as directed

· Obtain prior authorizations for medications and diagnostic procedures; communicate approvals or denials to providers

· Monitor insurance formularies and keep the care team informed of changes

· Schedule follow-up visits and support patient education as directed

· Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, and internal/external partners

· Assist patients in navigating healthcare and community-based services, including escorting as needed

Requirements:

· High School Diploma or GED (required)

· Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program

· Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) required within 6 months of hire

· Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

· 2–3 years of experience in a healthcare setting, including administrative or insurance-related work

· Strong data entry and basic computer skills

· Experience working with, or a strong commitment to serving vulnerable populations

· Valid driver’s license or ability to travel to off-site locations
