Position Description and Schedule
The Corinthian Yacht Club (CYC) in Marblehead, Massachusetts is looking for local sailors aged 15-17 looking to join our Junior Instructor-in-Training Program this summer. As part of our JIIT Program, you will gain valuable work experience as a sailing professional as well as sea time to put towards a future US Sailing Level 1 certification. Our team of instructors, Program Director and Sailing Director will mentor you on and off the water throughout the Summer.
We understand you may have other sailing or family commitments during the Summer, so we ask JIITs to commit to working a minimum of 6 of the 8 weeks-scheduled before the season begins- of our Junior Program. As a JIIT, you will help teach sailing lessons when you are available Monday through Friday from 6/20/26 to 8/16/26, as well as at least three Sunday mornings to support the CYC's Family Sailing program. You also have the opportunity to work events like Family Sailing before and after the Junior Program.
Please include in your application an up-to-date and complete professional resume that includes details on your educational, professional and sailing achievements.
As a CYC Junior Instructor-In-Training, you will:
- Possess an active interest in becoming a US Sailing Level 1 certified sailing instructor, a strong work ethic and ability to listen, learn and enjoy your time on the water.
- Share your passion for sailing with young sailors on the water and through land-based teaching. Our program includes mostly new and intermediate level sailors, with a handful of sailors beginning to race in local events.
- Learn how to develop daily and weekly lesson plans in partnership with other staff and the Junior Sailing Program Director, including land-based drills and on-the-water activities.
- Assist in the maintenance of CYC Prams, Optimist Dinghies and Sonars. The Junior Program Director, CYC Sailing Director and Dockmaster will teach you fleet maintenance.
- Gain valuable experience in safe coach boat operations by riding along with certified sailing instructors.
- Ensure sailors and staff enjoy a safe, fun environment every day, ensuring our sailors know the guidelines and follow them. That starts with instructors modeling safe behavior on land, on the CYC docks, in our sailboats and in our coach boats.
- Have numerous opportunities to improve your own sailing skills outside of the junior sailing program, whether on CYC-owned Sonars or sailing with CYC Members in both one design and PHRF Fleets.
What Happens Next?
Once you apply, we will be in touch to schedule a 20 to 30-minute introductory video call so we can get to know you. And you can get to know us. We look forward to meeting you!
