Field Service Installation Technician

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Field Service Installation Technician to join our team in the defense industry, specializing in shipbuilding and repair. This role focuses on the installation, maintenance, and repair of commercial and military equipment. The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on experience with assembly, fasteners, adhesives, and power tools. Regular travel to shipyards and facilities is required to support ongoing maintenance and ensure optimal system performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install and test commercial and military equipment per technical specifications and safety standards.
  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on ship systems, including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic components.
  • Use fasteners, adhesives, and handheld power tools to assemble and repair equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues to ensure efficient operation.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize performance and support plant maintenance.
  • Conduct inspections and preventive maintenance for long-term reliability of ship systems.
  • Document all service activities, including repairs, installations, and tests, in detailed reports.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and defense industry regulations.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in field service, maintenance, or repair in shipbuilding, defense, or related industries.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience using fasteners, adhesives, and power tools.
  • Proficient in installation and testing of commercial and military systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
  • Willingness to travel frequently across the U.S. (and occasionally internationally).
  • Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills.
  • Valid driver’s license; must pass background checks for defense-related work.

Preferred Skills

  • Familiarity with defense industry standards and shipboard systems.
  • Experience working in marine environments.
  • Knowledge of diagnostic tools and testing software.
