  • Salary: $83,000 to $120,000 Annually (Depends on the years of experience) + Full-time Benefits

Essential Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Provide occupational and employee health (OEH) services: Conduct pre-employment screenings, diagnose and treat work-related injuries and exposures, conduct return to work evaluations, perform professional physical exams (as required for specific job types), order and interpret diagnostics, and develop treatment and work status plans with minimal supervision, in alignment with evidence-based protocols and regulatory standards.
  • Coordinate patient care and follow-up: Manage work-related injuries and exposures, including arranging specialist referrals, monitoring recovery progress, and ensuring timely follow-up and communications with relevant stakeholders. Maintain thorough documentation in the electronic medical record and communicate work restrictions and care plans to supervisors and Absence Management.
  • Engage in preventive health and safety measures: Provide health promotion and disease prevention counseling to employees. Educate patients on workplace safety, exposure prevention, immunizations, and other topics relevant to OEH. Collect and review data on workplaces injuries/exposures and safety hazards to identify targets for intervention to improve safety and prevent future injury/exposure.
  • Coordinate with related hospital departments and serve as a clinical resource: Act as the primary clinical resource for OEH matters across the hospital. Collaborate with Human Resources, Environmental Health & Safety, Infection Control, and managers to support compliance with health policies and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and Maintain Clinical Protocols: Create and conduct a periodic review of clinical protocols, standing orders, and documentation standards to ensure high-quality, legally compliant care.
  • Monitor and Improve Service Quality: Participate in departmental quality improvement efforts by tracking clinical outcomes, identifying trends in employee health, and implementing improvements. Use data and current research to inform practice and policy.
  • Lead and Participate in Professional Development Activities: Maintain current knowledge of occupational health regulations and best practices. Participate in continuing education and serve as a mentor or educator to clinical staff as needed. Represent the department on committees and in cross-functional initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Expert knowledge of clinical decision-making frameworks and ability to apply them independently in an occupational health setting, without routine on-site supervision.
  • Skill in analyzing clinical information and applying structured problem-solving methods.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and accurately in both verbal and written English.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and the ability to develop and deliver tailored patient and employee education.
  • Skill in organizing and managing clinical workflows.
  • Ability to collaborate across clinical and non-clinical departments.
  • Proficiency in using electronic health records (EHRs) and occupational health software platforms to input, retrieve, and analyze health data.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited educational program for nurse practitioners and at least two years of current clinical experience in adult practice required.
  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with authorization by the Board of Registration in Nursing to practice in an expanded role.
  • Registered with the ANCC or other accrediting organization for Nurse Practitioners.
  • Registered with the State of Massachusetts and DEA for prescription writing privileges.
  • Prior experience in Occupational and Employee Health. (Preferred)
