JOB SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the RN Team Lead or Clinical Nurse Administrator (CNA) the Patient Safety Technician-Float works as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team providing efficient and appropriate assistance with select patient and unit needs. The PST - FLOAT will also perform a variety of clerical duties and various tasks to provide a well-supplied, safe and clean patient unit.


DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE:

This is a Float position, with the expectation that the PCA - FLOAT will provide services in any department. This position is primarily stationed in the Emergency Department and Progressive Care Unit but will support other areas and departments as assigned.

The Emergency Department is a Level III facility according to the guidelines of the Accreditation Manual for Hospitals. The seven-bed unit is open 24 hours a day with at least one physician on duty at all times and a roster of on-call physicians and specialists available within thirty minutes. The Emergency Department also provides a Safe room specifically designed to care for patients who are experiencing violent behavior or suicidal ideation. The patient population includes patients of all ages, and care provided ranges from definitive treatment of non-urgent, urgent and emergent medical/surgical conditions to stabilization and transport of the critically ill or injured. Birthing Center nursing staff is available for consultation or to assist in the care of neonates, infants and obstetrical patients.


The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is an acuity adjustable unit providing care to a diverse patient population requiring medical-surgical and telemetry levels of care, as well as patients requiring a higher level of care, including, but not limited to, those on BiPap, Insulin drips, or Cardizem drips. The PCU is a 24/7/365 service with 24 beds, which includes 5 monitored beds and 7 portable telemetry units. Medical patients are admitted by the 24/7 Hospitalist service, and surgical patients are admitted by the surgeon.


As this is a float position, work may be performed in any of our departments. In addition to the primary departments of the Emergency Department and the Processive Care Unit, additional working departments may include (but not limited to) our Birthing Center & Perioperative Care Units.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.

EXPERIENCE/SKILL SETS:

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced work environment with excellent organizational, customer service and prioritization skills required.
  • Prior healthcare experience preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION(S):

  • CPR within 3 months of hire.

Compensation Disclosure in Accordance with Vermont Act 155

The listed range represents the pay scale reasonably expected for a successful candidate based on factors such as relevant experience, education, internal equity, and market competitiveness.
