Methods Machine Tools was established in 1958 with three employees and a handful of refurbished machines. Since then, the company has become one of the largest privately owned machine tool importers in North America.


Methods designs and implements custom machining setups, including machine tool selection, automation integration, and turnkey automation cells. The corporate campus in Sudbury, Mass., comprises a showroom/technical center, which contains automation, applications, and a full range of cutting-edge machines. Methods has more than 300 employees, seven technology centers, one high precision machining center, and has installed more than 45,000 machines throughout North America.


Job Summary: We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Service Technician Level I, to join our maintenance team, specializing in planned preventative maintenance (PPM) of CNC machinery. This entry-level role is ideal for someone with a technical background who is eager to develop hands-on skills in the machine tool industry. Comprehensive training at our Center Of Excellence will be provided, to ensure best in class service and a strong foundation. The technician will be responsible for executing scheduled maintenance tasks to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and longevity of CNC equipment at customer sites and/or our facilities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine scheduled maintenance on CNC machines (e.g., lathes, milling machines, machining centers).
  • Follow detailed maintenance checklists and procedures to inspect and service mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Clean, lubricate, and replace worn parts to prevent machine failure.
  • Record service data, parts used, and machine status accurately in maintenance logs and service software.
  • Report any potential issues or irregularities to senior technicians or supervisors.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Communicate professionally with customers and internal teams to schedule and perform service tasks.
  • Support installation and setup of new equipment as required.

Required Qualifications & Skills:


  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certificate or associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Mechatronics, or a related field is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, electrical circuits, and machine tool components.
  • Previous experience with CNC machinery or industrial maintenance is advantageous but not required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow structured maintenance procedures.
  • Willingness to learn and develop troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer locations as needed.
  • Familiarity with CNC machines.
  • Basic computer and smartphone skills required
  • OSHA or other safety certifications.
  • Comfortable with repetitive work.

Travel Requirements:


  • Will require 100% local travel and domestic travel as required to meet customer needs.


Physical Requirements:

  • Work is performed in industrial settings, including machine shops and manufacturing facilities.
  • May require lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, and working in confined or elevated spaces.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
