THE OPPORTUNITY

The Galvion Newport Quality Manager will manage and administer the plant-wide Quality Management System as it applies to the Galvion Newport facility. The Quality Manager will also initiate and act as a resource for global improvement initiatives. The Quality Manager is responsible for driving continuous and significant improvement in Galvions quality performance. This will be achieved by developing a customer-centric culture and methodically improving processes that fulfill our mission.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Ensure that significant and quantifiable improvements to key Quality processes; including the control of non-conforming product, and quality compliance systems, are sustained.
  • Monitor and report to upper management, key Quality performance metrics and achieve improvements through continuous improvement efforts.
  • Manage and improve the processes of the Newport Quality Management System.
  • Manage the activities of the Quality department (including incoming, in-process, ballistics, and finished goods inspections and testing) to ensure that internal and customer requirements and expectations are continually met.
  • Serve as the senior Quality interface for the facility with a high degree of customer responsiveness.
  • Support the professional development of all associates to strengthen skill sets, promote team cohesiveness, and improve problem solving.
  • Set high expectations (driven by metrics and countermeasures) for the Quality department and the organization.
  • Act as the Armor Quality Resource, driving continuous improvement actions, training, and lean methodologies.
  • Interface with Marketing, Sales, Operations and RD&E functions regularly to make certain testing requirements and priorities are understood.
  • Maintain, manage, and further develop Galvions specialized test equipment relevant to current and future technologies; ensuring products are tested to the highest quality standards to meet or exceed customer requirements.
  • Coordinate internal and external testing regiments to provide objective quality evidence in support of customer product performance standards.
  • Evaluate results of product tests and inspections for compliance and analyze trends which may lead to failures in the future and initiate preventive measures as required.
  • Assist in the development of new test protocols for new products.
  • Assist Marketing and Sales to determine compliancy to new standards and help define customer requirements for certification.
  • Review customer requirements to determine and establish applicable internal standards.
  • Manage the calibration of test and measurement equipment on-site.
  • Provide guidance to internal and external customers regarding what testing is appropriate, and assist in the interpretation of test results, to include suggestions to improve product performance as applicable.
  • Become a key contributor to the internal auditing team and perform internal process assessments per ISO 9001 and internal requirements.
  • Develop first-hand knowledge of all standards and specifications which relate to our products.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Associates Degree (Bachelors degree preferred) in a technical field or equivalent experience in related manufacturing activity required.
  • 5+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • 2+ years of experience in a quality role including assessment experience.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills. Work as integral member of a team.
  • Knowledge about the manufacturing and testing of composite materials; including compression molding process.
  • Experience working in a regulated, spec-driven environment such as military or medical, strongly preferred.
  • Strong problem solving skills using RCA as a foundation.
  • Resourceful, combining strong manufacturing and technical abilities with overall management acumen
  • Ability to effectively deploy resources to key priorities.
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills (Teach, Mentor, Coach, Facilitate) used to create an intuitive and proactive culture throughout the facility.
  • Firm understanding of ISO 9001 standards and quality management systems.
  • Ability and attitude to work as a leader in a cross functional environment.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality results within corporate goals in a timely manner.
  • Open-minded, willing to learn new things, and innovative in thinking and problem-solving.
  • Proficient in computer use with Microsoft and other products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, statistical software, etc.).
  • Outstanding work ethic and passion for excellence, a must.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written and the ability to effectively communicate throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Autonomous and self-directed.
  • High degree of credibility and integrity
  • Strong analytical, project management, process and conceptual skills.
  • Technical background required.
  • Military experience is a plus.
