Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced Certified Surgical Tech (CST) to support OB/GYN surgical services in the Birthing Pavilion at a small critical access hospital. The facility includes two Operating Rooms and one Endoscopy Suite with a light call schedule (emergent cases only, no trauma call).
The CST will work collaboratively with surgeons, RNs, and the surgical team to ensure patient safety, maintain sterile technique, and support efficient surgical workflows.
Key Responsibilities
Surgical & Technical Duties
- Prepare and maintain sterile fields in accordance with AST standards
- Organize, set up, and manage surgical instruments and back table
- Anticipate surgeon needs and ensure all supplies/equipment are available
- Perform accurate OR counts (sponges, needles, instruments) and report discrepancies immediately
- Handle specimens accurately and maintain proper aseptic technique
- Assist with room turnover, cleaning, and preparation
- Monitor and assist with steam sterilization, chemical and biological indicators
- Scrub and prepare rooms at least 15 minutes prior to scheduled procedures
- Maintain responsibility for instruments and equipment during intra-operative care
OB/GYN-Specific Experience
- Ability to scrub basic cases with minimal supervision
- Knowledge of Cesarean Sections, Hysterectomies, and Episiotomy procedures
- Basic understanding of Labor & Delivery workflows, supplies, and unit operations
