Direct Support Professional - Home and Community 
Summary: The Home and Community Direct Support Professional (DSP) helps individuals with developmental disabilities or acquired brain injury live independently in their homes and communities. This caregiving role involves a variety of duties ranging from direct care, to assisting an individual with grocery shopping, meal preparation, personal care, attending community events, staying connected with friends and family, maintaining health, assisting with decision making about schedules and daily activities.
Direct Support Professional work is varied, creative, flexible, and rewarding. It offers the opportunity to assist someone to reach their full potential and life as independently as possible. Positions are typically part time with some fulltime opportunities available. Extensive training provided.
Essential Functions:
<ol>
<li>DSPs provide support in helping individuals develop independent living skills including social skills, cooking, communication, money management, community activities, household duties, safety, health, and personal hygiene.</li>
<li>DSPs assist individuals in accessing and engaging in community and social activities. These could include going out to eat, attending concerts or movies, building friendships, volunteering, taking walks, or participating in sports or workouts. DSPs provide transportation to community activities, and must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.</li>
<li>DSPs support individuals in achieving goals outlined in their service agreements. They accurately track an individual's progress, inform the Program Manager of any changes affecting an individual's well-being, injury, illness, and health or emotional changes.</li>
<li>DSPs complete required documentation (daily notes, medication logs, incident reports, progress notes, etc.) accurately and on time, and adhere to all regulations, policies and procedures. They follow safety protocols to maintain a safe environment, and report unsafe conditions to the Program Manager. A DSP acts in accordance with legal responsibilities to ensure the individual's safety and welfare and maintains confidentiality.</li>
<li>DSPs administer medication if the individual is unable to self-administer, as determined by the agency nurse. Medication training is provided by the agency.</li>
</ol>
Education/Experience High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Experience with individuals with developmental disabilities, related experiences as an aid or caregiver preferred but not required. Must complete all MDS training within six months of hire and annually thereafter.
Working Conditions DSPs are considered Essential Employees and may be required to work flexible schedules in various settings. Must have a valid driver's license, and reliable transportation. Mileage reimbursement is available. Medication certification and Safety Care training may be required. Must be able to lift 25+ lbs with assistance as needed. Employment is contingent upon passing criminal, motor vehicle, BAAS, DCYF, and OIG background checks.

The Special Programs Department manages the following programs: Senior Care Options Plans (SCO), One Care Plans (OCP), and the Community Partnership (CP) under Accountable Care Organizations Partnership (ACO).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

<li>Assist with the selection, onboarding, and training of supervised staff.</li>
<li>Ensure compliance with CMS, Executive Office of Aging &amp; Independence (AGE), and other applicable State and Federal regulations and programs, CBES policies and procedures, quality performance measures, and productivity standards. </li>

<li>Serve as a liaison between the SCO and OC Plans, CPs, ACO Partners, Protective Service Agencies, Boston Housing Authority, and Property Management and CBES staff, providers, and consumers as needed.</li>
<li>Review and reconcile monthly member rosters.</li>
<li>Review consumers’ assignments to care managers monthly.</li>
<li>Participate in internal and external meetings as required. </li>
<li>Provide support to care managers, supervisors, and other CBES staff regarding consumer assessments, service planning, and resources. </li>
<li>Ensure that the staff identifies elders in at-risk situations, including abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation. Report to and collaborate with an appropriate crisis intervention agency, including Protective Services and Elders at Risk programs, to alleviate abuse, neglect, and other crises.</li>
<li>Provide coverage for the Sr. LTSS Managers, and supervisors, and oversee the care managers if the manager/team supervisor is absent. This includes, but is not limited to, weekly supervision meetings and consults. </li>
<li>Approve timesheets, weekly schedules, time-off requests, and conduct other related paperwork and duties as needed.</li>
<li>Protect Consumers’ Personal Health Information (PHI) and report suspected security breaches.</li>
<li>Provide coaching and mentoring to staff. Consult with Sr. LTSS Manager and Human Resources regarding employee-related matters. </li>
<li>Other duties and projects as assigned.</li>
</ul>
QUALIFICATIONS:
<ul>
<li>Three years working in an Aging Services Access Point organization with case management experience with at least one year of supervisory experience is strongly preferred.</li>
<li>Strong organizational and problem-solving skills are required.</li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are required.</li>
<li>Must be able to work with a diverse population and within a multi-disciplinary team.</li>
<li>Must be familiar with the federal and state programs and local resources.</li>
<li>Must have strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and SAMS.</li>
<li>Prior experience working with MassHealth, SCO or One Care Plan, or other insurance plans is a plus.</li>

About New Ways Services – (ABI Division)
New Way is MHA’s residential and community-based program for individuals living with acquired brain injuries (ABI) due to trauma, stroke, or serious illness. These life changes can bring physical, emotional, and cognitive challenges, and New Way provides the support needed to navigate them. Through personalized care, skill-building, and meaningful daily routines, individuals are supported in gaining independence, reconnecting with others, and living fully in the community. Our homes are safe, accessible, and integrated into typical neighborhoods, offering 24/7 support along with nursing, clinical, and therapeutic services.

Position Summary
As a Residential Support Specialist, you will provide a supportive and safe environment in a community residential setting that fosters growth, independence, and community engagement for individuals who have experienced a brain injury resulting in physical limitations, mental health, and/or cognitive challenges. Your role requires professionalism and collaboration with team members in alignment with MHA’s Core Values—Respect, Integrity, and Compassion—while adhering to organizational policies, program funding guidelines, and applicable regulatory standards.
Pay Rate: $20 an hour
Open Shift: Saturdays 8am-4pm (8h)
Key Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Engage with participants in a respectful and empowering manner to promote self-esteem, independence, and personal growth.</li>
<li>Assist participants with daily living tasks such as personal care, meal preparation, shopping, and household maintenance.</li>
<li>Support participants in accessing community resources, including transportation, education, social activities, and healthcare services.</li>
<li>Teach and encourage self-advocacy skills while serving as a liaison with families, providers, and external parties.</li>
<li>Provide financial support through budgeting, money management, and accurate documentation of expenditures.</li>
<li>Monitor participant health and well-being, assist with medication administration, schedule appointments, and respond to emergencies.</li>
<li>Maintain accurate, timely documentation including logs, data records, incident reports, and use of agency systems.</li>
<li>Promote safety by identifying and addressing hazards, assisting with emergency drills, and following agency safety procedures.</li>
<li>Demonstrate flexibility in scheduling, provide shift coverage as needed, and actively participate in team collaboration.</li>
<li>Attend all required training, maintain certifications, and uphold professionalism to support program quality and standards.</li>

Requirements
<ul>
<li>Valid driver’s license, sufficient automobile insurance, an acceptable driving record, and access to a reliable vehicle during working hours.</li>
<li>Adaptability to participants' changing needs.</li>
<li>Patience, compassion, and strong interpersonal skills.</li>
<li>Ability to pass and maintain certifications in medication administration (MAP), CPR, and First Aid.</li>
<li>Must be at least 18 years old.</li>
<li>High school diploma or GED required; college degree in human services or a related field preferred.</li>
<li>Minimum of six months of relevant experience; experience with individuals with brain injuries, mental health challenges, or developmental disabilities is preferred.</li>
