Reports to: Director of Youth and Children’s Ministries (DYCM)
Directly Supervises: n/a
Status: part-time, 3.5 hours/week, September - June (0.07 FTE). Possible additional hours in summer and for childcare at a few church events during the year, as mutually agreed upon.
FLSA: Non-exempt/hourly
Compensation: $25/hour
Effective: ASAP (June 2025)
Job Summary
Provide a safe, healthy, nurturing environment for children as “childcare” (ages 2 through 13 years) during choir practice (8:30 - 10:15 AM), and “nursery” (ages 6 months through 3 years) during Sunday morning church activities/meetings/services (10:15 AM - Noon).
Position Responsibilities
Supervise and care for children in the nursery, comforting anxious children, interacting with children, and providing any additional care requested by parents (e.g. snacks and drinks).
Work with the DYCM and Children's Religious Education Coordinator to plan age-appropriate activities for the children in attendance each week.
Communicate with parents at time of drop off and pick up regarding the needs of the child and to inform parents of how the child did while in the room.
Mentor teen RE teachers, when present, and provide direction in interactions with children. Any given Sunday there may be 0, 1 or 2 teen RE teachers assisting with childcare/nursery, depending on attendance and classroom coverage elsewhere.
Perform first aid for minor accidents and illness. Care for children who become ill and inform DYCM, Children’s Religious Education Coordinator, or other designee, as soon as possible.
Maintain an attractive, sanitary, orderly nursery room with all equipment and supplies in good condition.
In the summer, conduct playroom inventory checks and inform DYCM when supplies/equipment are needed or are in disrepair.
Communicate to the DYCM or designee any childcare needs and all accidents or unusual occurrences involving children.
Maintain attendance records.
Perform additional duties as requested by the DYCM or Children’s Religious Education Coordinator. On rare occasions, if there are no children in the nursery, you may be asked to be an additional adult for another children's class. You would be expected to assist but not lead the class.
Knowledge and Skills Required
Minimum Requirements
Be available most weeks September - June from 8:30-12 on Sunday mornings, inclusive of set up and clean up.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
Physical Requirements
Able to lift up to 30 pounds (picking up children from floor, crib, or seat).
Comfortable sitting, stooping, and kneeling at children's level.
