Position summary: Atlas-Academy seeks a Long-Term Substitute to serve as an assistant teacher from January through June. The substitute will support classroom instruction, maintain a positive and safe learning environment, and implement Montessori-informed activities under the direction of the lead teacher.
Responsibilities:
- Support the lead teacher in daily classroom operations and implementation of curriculum and lesson plans.
- Deliver developmentally appropriate Montessori activities that promote independence, social skills, and academic development.
- Supervise students during classroom time, transitions, meals, and outdoor play to ensure safety and well-being.
- Assist with classroom preparation, material organization, and maintenance of a clean, orderly learning environment.
- Monitor student progress and behavior; report observations and concerns to the lead teacher and school administration.
- Follow established classroom routines, schedules, and school policies, including health and safety procedures.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with students, colleagues, and families as appropriate.
Requirements (required):
- Availability to work full-time as a long-term substitute from January through June at the Dracut campus.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience working with young children in a classroom, daycare, preschool, or similar setting.
- Ability to follow lesson plans, manage groups of children, and maintain a safe classroom environment.
- Clear background check and any state-required clearances for working with children.
- Reliable transportation to and from the Dracut location.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively with lead teachers and staff.
Preferred qualifications:
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field.
- Montessori training or experience in a Montessori classroom.
- CPR and First Aid certification for childcare providers.
- Prior experience as an assistant teacher or substitute in an early childhood setting.
Schedule and location:
- Start: January (exact date to be confirmed)
- End: June (end of school term)
- Location: Atlas-Academy Montessori school, Dracut
- Typical hours: aligned with school day schedule; some flexibility may be required for staff meetings or events.
