Core responsibilities
- Build and maintain standard product/service costs; compare standards to actuals and explain variances.
- Collect, analyze, and present cost accounting data including cost comparisons and product cost analysis.
- Monitor inventory levels; perform and support physical inventory counts.
- Ensure accurate US GAAP reporting of manufacturing costs and inventory balances.
- Assess fixed vs. variable costs to determine total manufacturing cost per product.
- Analyze labor and overhead rates; monitor accumulation of direct labor, overhead, and related manufacturing expenses.
- Prepare monthly/quarterly inventory analyses and management-ready reports.
- Research material costs to maintain data integrity within ERP/accounting systems.
- Drive cost-reduction strategies and support pricing decisions to improve ROI.
- Perform month-end close activities: journal entries, reconciliations, and discrepancy resolution.
- Prepare budget reports; partner across departments to support accurate budgeting and forecasting.
- Support internal and external audits; provide documentation and analysis as needed.
- Review inventory for obsolescence/excess and recommend appropriate adjustments.
- Assist the broader finance team wherever needed and deliver timely reporting to leadership.
Interfaces, decisions, and impact
- Interfaces: Inter-company personnel across Operations, Supply Chain, and Finance.
- Decision-making: Provide analytical guidance and findings to the direct manager under supervision.
- Impact of error: Direct impact on financial statements and decision-making.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in finance with an accounting major.
- 5+ years of accounting experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong command of GAAP and appropriate expense classification.
- Advanced Excel and MS Office skills; familiarity with Access and PowerPoint.
- Experience with ERP/accounting systems; NetSuite and Syteline experience highly desirable.
- CPA or similar credential is a plus.
- Comfort with large datasets, statistical concepts, and cost analysis techniques.
- Excellent communication/presentation skills; collaborative and self-directed with a ‘can do’ attitude.
- Highly organized; effective under pressure and tight deadlines.
