Are you detail-oriented, a strong communicator, and interested in the claims and underwriting side of insurance? We’re looking for an Underwriting & Claims Assistant to join our team and play a key role in supporting claims, underwriting, billing, and client service functions. This role is ideal for someone with insurance experience who enjoys reviewing details, investigating issues, processing policy changes, and building relationships with agents and policyholders.


What You’ll Do

Claims Support

  • Review and process adjuster reports, reserves, and claim payments.
  • Contact policyholders after first notice of loss to gather facts, explain the process, and provide clear communication.
  • Draft and send expectation and assurance letters to policyholders.
  • Identify and communicate underwriting concerns tied to claims.
  • Monitor claim progress to ensure compliance with service standards.

Underwriting Support

  • Process policy transactions (cancellations, non-renewals, endorsements, renewals).
  • Review home inspection reports and flag concerns related to exposures, hazards, or insurance-to-value.
  • Investigate changes to insurable interests, including returned mail or address issues.
  • Assist independent agents with system and process questions, providing timely and accurate follow-up.
  • Request and track needed information from agents and policyholders.

Billing & General Support

  • Respond to billing questions from agents, policyholders, and mortgagees.
  • Process premium payments and handle mortgagee requests for proof of insurance.
  • Provide general administrative support, answer inbound calls, and assist with mail.
  • Contribute to special projects as needed.

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years of insurance industry experience, ideally in claims or underwriting.
  • Experience with homeowners policies required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to explain complex issues clearly.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze claim details, policy language, and inspection findings.
  • Critical thinker who can investigate, resolve issues, and make sound recommendations.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Experience with Guidewire or similar systems is a plus, but not required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; insurance license and/or designations is a plus.
