Position Summary

The Greater Burlington YMCA is a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. As the Director of Facilities, you will lead the team responsible for maintaining safe, clean, and functional facilities, grounds, and vehicles across the Y. You’ll oversee the systems, staff, and resources that ensure our buildings operate efficiently and provide a welcoming, safe environment for all who enter.


Schedule and Location

This is a full-time, onsite position based at the Greater Burlington YMCA. The schedule generally follows a weekday workweek, with occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends based on operational needs, emergencies, or special projects.

What You’ll Do

• Lead and support the day-to-day operations of the Facilities team, ensuring all Y spaces are safe, clean, and welcoming.
• Manage daily maintenance needs and coordinate with custodial vendors.
• Respond to maintenance requests and complete basic repairs through a centralized work order system.
• Supervise and support team members, fostering a culture of accountability, growth, and teamwork.
• Process payroll for direct reports accurately and on time.
• Build and maintain strong working relationships with vendors, contractors, and community partners.
• Develop and manage the annual operating budget, including capital planning.
• Oversee and track departmental expenses such as utilities, vendor payments, and credit card reconciliations.
• Maintain Safety Data Sheets and ensure OSHA and GHS compliance.
• Conduct regular ADA and OSHA safety inspections and resolve issues proactively.
• Serve on the Safety Committee and coordinate emergency drills (e.g., fire evacuations).
• Work with vendors to ensure high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
• Ensure all YMCA tools, vehicles, and equipment are safe and well-maintained.
• Maintain inventories and implement preventive maintenance schedules.
• Collaborate with the VP of Operations and Property Manager on shared facility goals.
• Attend required trainings and meetings.
• Consistently model the Y’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the YMCA.

Requirements:

Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications to be eligible for the starting rate of $60,000.00/year . Additional compensation is determined based on experience and education aligned with the preferred qualifications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3 years of experience in facilities, maintenance, or custodial operations.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of general maintenance practices, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
  • Familiarity with OSHA standards and facility safety protocols.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Comfortable using email, calendars, and basic digital tools to manage tasks and communication.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work on your feet for extended periods.
  • Available for a flexible schedule, including occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends.
  • A valid driver’s license, with the ability to pass a motor vehicle record check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least 5 years of experience in facility operations.
  • At least 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Experience managing custodial vendors or third-party contractors.
  • Familiarity with work order systems or maintenance tracking tools.
  • Working knowledge of building systems (e.g., boilers, HVAC, fire safety) – general understanding only; not responsible for oversight.

  • This role requires frequent movement throughout YMCA buildings and properties, including mechanical rooms, rooftops, and outdoor areas in varying weather conditions.
  • Regular physical activity is required, including walking, bending, lifting, climbing ladders, and carrying tools or equipment (up to 50 lbs).
  • May require operation of basic hand tools, power tools, and facility equipment such as snow blowers or lawn mowers.
  • Will be exposed to standard building maintenance conditions, including noise, dust, odors, and varying temperatures.
  • Will regularly be required to respond to time-sensitive or emergency situations such as equipment failure, safety concerns, or inclement weather events.
  • Work may include both administrative tasks in an office setting (sitting at a computer, using a phone) and hands-on facility work.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required in support of facility needs, special events, or emergency responses.
