Summary

​​Saxon Hill School’s Extended Discovery (ED) Program is an opportunity for children to extend their preschool days in a play-based environment. Children will practice social, emotional, cognitive and physical skills through playing, creating, exploring in our beautiful indoor outdoor settings. The routine typically includes: play, lunch, circle time, rest, snack, and then more play! The ED Assistant Teacher work day is 11:30am-5:00pm, Monday- Friday. Duties

  • Supports the philosophy and mission of Saxon Hill School through teaching practices such as classroom management, environment, routines, and teacher language
  • Supports the social, emotional, cognitive and physical development of the children.
  • Assists Head Teacher with preparing, organizing and maintaining a safe, healthy and inviting environment for children
  • Assists Head Teacher in observing and assessing children’s behavior in order to adapt teaching in response to children’s differences.
  • Establishes and maintains positive relationships with children and families
  • Supports a positive, collaborative relationship with all SHS employees
  • Adheres to theduties, responsibilities and policies outlined in the Employee Handbook and the Family Handbook, including:
  • Staff Orientation meeting, Staff Board Retreat, Fall Full Membership Meeting
  • 15 hours of Professional Development or PD required to maintain a teaching license
  • Staff meetings, Regularly Scheduled Classroom Planning meetings
  • Set up of classroom environment at start of the school year
  • Daily end of day cleaning duties



Requirements

Experience in the field of early education preffered, If new to the field, additional professional development may be required during the school year.

Nice To Haves

Successful completion of a three (3) college credit course in child or human development or a three (3) college credit course for school age care and education and at least twelve (12) months experience working with groups of children from grade three (3) or younger.
