Licensed Special Education Teacher Middle School LINKS Program
Location: Springfield, MA (Forest Park Middle School)
Position Type: Full-Time Contract, ASAP through End of School Year, with Potential Extension
A licensed Special Education Teacher is needed to provide instructional leadership and specialized support within a middle school LINKS program serving students with significant support needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This role involves being the teacher of record for classrooms with small student-to-staff ratios, collaborating closely with paraprofessionals and 1:1 aides to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and address diverse learning and behavioral needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction aligned with students IEPs focusing on academic, social, and behavioral goals
- Collaborate with paraprofessionals and assigned 1:1 staff to support student needs, including toileting and sensory-related care
- Manage classrooms with approximately 6 students, providing a safe and supportive learning environment
- Monitor and address self-injurious behaviors (SIB) and sensory needs with appropriate interventions
- Maintain consistent communication with school staff and families to support student progress and wellbeing
Required Qualifications:
- Valid Massachusetts Special Education teaching license
- Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Comfort and experience providing toileting assistance and supporting sensory needs
- Knowledge and skills in managing self-injurious behaviors (SIB)
- Ability to collaborate effectively with paraprofessionals and 1:1 support staff
Additional Requirements:
- Successful completion of background check, fingerprinting, and drug screening
- Reliable transportation with punctual arrival and departure
- Immediate availability to begin, with full commitment through the school year
