Licensed Special Education Teacher Middle School LINKS Program

Location: Springfield, MA (Forest Park Middle School)
Position Type: Full-Time Contract, ASAP through End of School Year, with Potential Extension

A licensed Special Education Teacher is needed to provide instructional leadership and specialized support within a middle school LINKS program serving students with significant support needs, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This role involves being the teacher of record for classrooms with small student-to-staff ratios, collaborating closely with paraprofessionals and 1:1 aides to implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and address diverse learning and behavioral needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver specialized instruction aligned with students IEPs focusing on academic, social, and behavioral goals
  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals and assigned 1:1 staff to support student needs, including toileting and sensory-related care
  • Manage classrooms with approximately 6 students, providing a safe and supportive learning environment
  • Monitor and address self-injurious behaviors (SIB) and sensory needs with appropriate interventions
  • Maintain consistent communication with school staff and families to support student progress and wellbeing

Required Qualifications:

  • Valid Massachusetts Special Education teaching license
  • Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
  • Comfort and experience providing toileting assistance and supporting sensory needs
  • Knowledge and skills in managing self-injurious behaviors (SIB)
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with paraprofessionals and 1:1 support staff

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of background check, fingerprinting, and drug screening
  • Reliable transportation with punctual arrival and departure
  • Immediate availability to begin, with full commitment through the school year
