Aquinas Consulting is currently looking to fill an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Competency Assurance Specialist job for our direct client. In this role, you will develop, implement, and manage competency assurance programs, training systems, and related documentation to support organizational EHS initiatives. You will be responsible for creating training materials, assessments, and tracking tools, as well as supporting contractor competency checks and delivering classroom training. This position requires strong EHS expertise, training development skills, and the ability to work independently while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
EHS Competency Assurance Specialist Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the Competency Assurance program, identifying training requirements and certifications for personnel
- Contribute to the creation and delivery of training materials, including computer-based modules and classroom sessions
- Develop and document assessment procedures and tools for Competency Assurance
- Support administrators and evaluators in delivering and managing training within their areas of responsibility
- Perform competency assurance checks for major contractors
- Track, maintain, and manage training records and metrics, ensuring compliance with organizational requirements
- Prepare and deliver reports for training metrics and competency records management
- Maintain documentation, data, and records for safety programs, risk control programs, and corrective actions
- Provide guidance, mentoring, and peer development to strengthen EHS competency assurance processes
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 8 years of EHS-related experience (applicable education and certifications will be considered)
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental, Health and Safety, or a related scientific/engineering discipline preferred
- Experience in EHS training, compliance, and program documentation
- Strong knowledge of applicable EHS laws and regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver training and document procedures effectively
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook), databases, and EHS training data systems
- Personal qualities of integrity, flexibility, and confidentiality, with the ability to build rapport and influence others
- CPR and First Aid trainer certification a plus
