Were looking for an Estimator to join our Estimating Group, with a focus on Fire Protection systems. This role is ideal for someone with estimating experience in mechanical or fire protection construction whos ready to take the lead on preparing detailed and competitive bids. Youll work as part of a collaborative preconstruction team, contributing to technically complex and meaningful projects in healthcare, life sciences, education, and commercial sectors.
As an Estimator, youll review plans and specifications, develop accurate quantity takeoffs, evaluate subcontractor proposals, and prepare professional estimates that reflect a deep understanding of fire protection systems and construction methods.
What Youll Do
- Analyze construction drawings and project specifications to define the scope of fire protection systems.
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs for sprinkler, standpipe, and special hazard systems.
- Work with subcontractors and vendors to gather competitive pricing and confirm scope alignment.
- Identify inconsistencies or missing information in bid documents and address them proactively.
- Develop clear, well-organized estimates that include labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Write concise proposals with defined scope, qualifications, and assumptions.
- Participate in internal estimate reviews and attend project handoff meetings with the operations team.
- Collaborate with peers across estimating, project management, engineering, and field operations.
What You Bring
- 35 years of experience in construction estimating, ideally in fire protection or mechanical systems.
- Strong understanding of NFPA codes and fire protection system design and layout.
- Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Bluebeam Revu, and estimating software
- Clear communication skillsboth written and verbalwith the ability to explain complex information to varied audiences.
- Solid organizational skills and ability to manage multiple bids and shifting priorities.
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of the Boston market.
