SUMMARY: Plan and complete new construction projects throughout the MCCA properties as requested. Ensure finished areas of the building (walls, doors, windows, trim, etc,) are maintain in the proper condition by constructing, erecting, installing, and repairing structures and fixtures of wood, plywood, and wallboard, conforming to local building codes, by performing the following duties.

  • Perform maintenance and/or repair work as directed by the assigned working foreperson or as requested by written work requests as generated by the Computerized Maintenance Management System. Upon completion of any work request, properly fill-out the written requested providing accurate identification of all labor hours expended and supplies or consumable materials used to complete the assigned work. Describe any additional or follow up work necessary. Submit completed work request to the Working Foreperson or CMMS Administrator as directed.
  • Working from drawings or verbal instructions to construct and dismantle woodwork related to exhibitions on a timely basis.
  • Studies blueprints, sketches, or building plans for information pertaining to type of material required, such as lumber or fiberboard, and dimensions of structure or fixture to be fabricated.
  • Selects specified type of lumber or other materials.
  • Prepares layout.
  • Marks cutting and assembly lines on materials.
  • Shapes materials to prescribed measurements.
  • Assembles cut and shaped materials and fastens them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue.
  • Uses hand tools, portable power tools and stationery power tools to maintain and repair cabinet’s chairs, fixtures, windows, and doors throughout the complex.
  • Complete large construction projects within the Convention Center including building framework for new office areas, doorways, or hallways.
  • Applies shock-absorbing, sound-deadening, and decorative paneling to ceilings and walls.
  • Requisition all materials and supplies as needed. Arrange for material deliveries and delivery receipt. Pickup any materials or supplies locally when necessary. Organize and submit all vendor and/or supplier order delivery and receipt confirmation documentation as required by the Financial Management System (FMS).
  • Fits and installs prefabricated window frames, doors, doorframes, weather stripping, interior and exterior trim, and finish hardware, such as locks, letter drops, and kick plates.
  • Building scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above ground level.
  • Assist with snow removal / ice control operations as required and directed.
  • Performs all work in accordance with safety procedures.
  • Assist members of the MCCA staff in the completion of their required duties, which typically involves assistance with the installation, repair, or maintenance of equipment related to other building functions.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and 5+ years related work experience and/or training must possess ability to work independently.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

Other Requirements: The ability to travel away from home for a few days at a time may be necessary

WORK SCHEDULE: Due to the nature of this work, this department operates 7 days per week 24 hours per day. The employee typically works a fixed or rotating shift consisting of days, nights, weekends and holidays based on the needs of the department. The ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays are required.

DRESS CODE: In order to project dignity and decorum expected by the public, appropriate dress and good grooming are expected of all employees, (uniforms are supplied)
