Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to manage and oversee all aspects of payroll processing, compliance, and reporting. The ideal candidate will bring a minimum of 10 years of hands-on experience in payroll accounting and demonstrate exceptional accuracy, analytical ability, and integrity in handling confidential employee and financial information.
Key Responsibilities:
- Accurately process and review multi-state payrolls in accordance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
- Post bi-weekly journal entries to the general ledger and reconcile payroll accounts.
- Analyze payroll data to identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for process improvements.
- Review timesheets for accuracy.
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices and able to research compliance questions for different states.
- Manage and reconcile all payroll deductions, such as insurance, retirement contributions, levies, and taxes, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
- Prepare and file payroll tax returns, ensuring timely remittance of payroll taxes and other deductions; prepare year-end W-2s
- Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to ensure accurate employee data and benefits reporting, including managing workers’ compensation filings, preparing state unemployment documentation, and performing other related support tasks.
- Post journal entries related to employee benefits and reconcile those accounts.
- Support internal and external audits by providing payroll-related documentation and reports.
- Serve as the main point of contact for employees regarding payroll-related questions, issues, concerns, answering their questions about payroll, compensation, deductions, and tax forms.
- Maintain and safeguard employee payroll information with strict confidentiality and discretion.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- Minimum 10 years of payroll accounting experience, preferably in a mid- to large-sized organization.
- Strong understanding of payroll laws, tax regulations, and accounting principles (GAAP).
- Advanced proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., ADP (preferred), Paylocity, SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel.
- Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; excellent customer service is essential.
