Summary of Responsibilities
The Project Developer / Estimator leads the front-end planning and development of residential remodeling projects, from initial site visits through final budgets, schedules, and contracts. This role coordinates with designers, engineers, and subcontractors to develop accurate estimates and well-defined scopes, ensuring projects are thoroughly planned before construction begins. The position balances focused, detail-oriented work with client and jobsite interaction, with an emphasis on accuracy, communication, and accountability.
Essential Functions
- Develop accurate cost estimates for residential remodeling projects.
- Conduct project walkthroughs with subcontractors to define scope and pricing.
- Prepare project schedules, spreadsheets, and Gantt charts during preconstruction.
- Coordinate with designers and internal team members to clarify plans and details.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for subcontractors during estimating and planning.
- Identify risks, gaps, or inconsistencies in scope prior to construction.
- Participate in weekly sales and project detail meetings.
- Support a smooth transition from preconstruction into production.
- Maintain organized estimating and project documentation.
- Contribute to improving estimating tools, systems, and processes over time.
Education, Experience, and Skills Required
- Minimum 5 years of relevant construction experience (carpenter, lead carpenter, project manager, or similar).
- Strong field experience with confidence on job sites.
- Ability to produce accurate cost estimates and preconstruction plans.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Experience with JobTread or similar construction CRM/estimating software preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Massachusetts Construction Supervisor License (CSL) strongly preferred or willingness to obtain.
Compensation
Salary:
- $75,000–$100,000 annually, based on experience.
