The Town of Brookline is seeking an experienced and innovative Associate Director of Transportation & Mobility to oversee all aspects of the Town’s transportation and mobility programs, development and implementation of transportation infrastructure, permitting, and use of the public right-of-way. Work associated with this includes supervisory, regulatory, planning, and technical assistance functions, and other related work as required.
This position requires a team player that can work with all members of the Town staff, the Select Board, Town Meeting members and various Boards and Commissions. This individual will also be a critical member of the team while working with our partners at the MBTA, MassDOT and the State House.
Responsibilities
- Lead planning, design, and operations for roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, parking, and traffic control systems.
- Supervise and mentor professional staff, consultants, and interns; oversee project management and ensure high-quality results.
- Advance initiatives such as Complete Streets, Bicycle Network Implementation, Vision Zero, traffic calming, shared mobility programs, parking benefit districts, and permit parking.
- Provide professional staff support and recommendations to the Transportation Board, Select Board, and other committees.
- Oversee licensing and regulation of taxis, livery, valet, jitney, and rideshare programs.
- Develop budgets, manage contracts, and pursue grants to support transportation and mobility investments.
- Represent the Town with regional and state agencies, community groups, and the MBTA.
- Research and implement innovative mobility solutions including EV charging, bike share, car share, and public transit partnerships.
- Serve as Acting Director in the absence of the Director or Deputy Director of Engineering.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor of Science Degree in civil engineering, transportation management/planning or a related field; five plus years of progressively responsible experience in transportation/engineering, including at least two years in a municipal setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional Engineer (PE) license desirable. MA Driver's License required.
The ideal candidate has a strong knowledge of traffic engineering principles, design standards, and applicable federal/state regulations, proven supervisory and project management experience; and excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and present technical material clearly.

Salary Range: $118,447 - $134,017 DOQ
