SCOPE OF WORK: Performs a variety of entry level accounting, clerical and customer service tasks related to student billing, payment processing, and other college accounts receivable transactions including providing general information regarding financial aid. This position reports to the Chief Accounting Officer at River Valley Community College.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Performs front-line customer service to students regarding all aspects of their financial accounts.
- Compiles and distributes mass emails and text communications to students regarding their accounts and the timeline of due dates.
- Informs students regarding financial aid status and process, procedures, and requirements.
- Utilizes the software systems, including but not limited to Banner, PC based electronic spreadsheets, and word processing, to perform assigned tasks.
- Maintains knowledge of internal policies and processes related to but not limited to financial aid, third-party billing, student activities, and scholarships.
- Answers inquiries, solves problems related to accounts, and works towards a resolution for all parties involved.
- Provides general clerical support, including typing, filing, data entry, phone coverage, and mail merge for 3rd parties.
- Assists with billing activity and follows up on payment of past-due third parties.
- Provides extended coverage as needed to ensure proper staffing levels and to provide backup for other staff members as required,
- Complies with all system, college, state, and federal rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent credential. Each year of approved education may be substituted for required work experience.
Experience: One year of experience in bookkeeping or accounting work.
License/Certification: Valid driver’s license.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word andExcel.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Some knowledge of accounting principles and methods. Ability to apply and adapt established methods to varied bookkeeping transactions. Ability to make accurate arithmetical calculations. Ability to maintain effective working relationships. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the management.
