We are currently recruiting for a Research Analyst – Level 2 to assist the Northeast Fisheries’ Science Center’s (NEFSC) Marine Development and Ecology Branch (MDEB).

This will be part-time position with 1504 hours allotted, annually. Work will be performed on-site at a Northeast Fisheries Science Center, as well as aboard research vessels in the Northwest Atlantic Ocean, or remotely in coordination with the COR and Project Lead. The contract has a one-year base period and will have up to three (3) 12-month option periods.

Duties:

  1. Support scientific needs related to the co-existence of fisheries and marine development research and/or operations (including but not limited to ocean enrichment, marine carbon dioxide removal, marine critical minerals mining, offshore wind development, and other marine development activities or projects).
  2. Provide scientific support to both NEFSC and GARFO. To expand the available resources for evaluating potential impact on NOAA Trust Resources from o marine development, the NEFSC is seeking scientific capacity.
  3. Advance regional collaborative ecosystem-scale research and monitoring programs
  4. Analyze the effects and impacts of proposed developments at regional scales, including impacts on NOAA’s scientific enterprise, e.g., surveys and 60+ stock assessments.
  5. Curate scientific materials and develop original manuscripts which explore the intersection of marine development and NOAA Trust Resources including fish, fisheries, essential fish habitat, protected species and fishing communities.
  6. Expand, curate and manage a shared, annotated citation library of marine development literature
  7. Lead, develop, write, and manage peer-review manuscripts to advance scientific knowledge on interactions between marine development and NOAA Trust Resources.
  8. Provide scientific advice to GARFO during the marine development permitting process.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in a field directly related to the task requirements.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field

Salary range is $50 - $60 per hour, dependent upon experience.
