SUMMARY OF POSITION FUNCTION:
Plans, establishes, implements and maintains a variety of occupational health, safety and environmental programs.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reviews, evaluates, and analyzes work environments and designs programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and or ergonomic factors.
• Develops, implements and administers safety training and accident prevention for staff and students.
• Investigates and reports workplace incidents and accidents.
• Surveys the workplace to identify and evaluate occupational health, safety and environmental conditions.
• Determines the cause of accidents/injuries; develops current and future loss control strategies and implements corrective actions.
• Ensures enforcement of OSHA regulations and company safety procedures.
• Compiles, analyzes, interprets and reports accidents and injuries and enters information on Occupational Safety and Health Administration recordkeeping forms.
• Recommends the purchase of safety equipment and supplies.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
• Strong working knowledge in occupational health, safety and environmental compliance with applicable federal and state regulations and standards.
• Capacity to develop, implement and coordinate a comprehensive health and safety accident prevention program.
• Skilled in the standards, concepts, practices and procedures within the health, safety and environmental fields.
• Demonstrate attention to detail; ability to work independently
• Strong analytical and decision-making skills
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in the use of common computer software (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health or work-related field. OSHA 600 certification preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
• One year of work-related work experience
OTHER:
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
- Must possess or obtain valid commercial Driver’s License Class B with passenger endorsement within three months of hire.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES:
- Reading, writing and communicating fluently in English
- Hearing and speaking to express ideas and/or exchange information in person or over the telephone
- Seeing to read labels, posters, documents, PC screens, etc.
- Sitting, standing, moving about or walking for occasional or frequent periods of time
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, two-way radio and other office equipment
- Kneeling, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching overhead
- Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and/or lifting light objects
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Campus and general office setting
- Indoor and outdoor environment
- On-call for emergencies or as needed
- Work a flex schedule to include evenings and/or weekends
- Driving a vehicle (bus, van, auto) occasionally in variable traffic and weather conditions
- Exposure to possible confrontations and fights
