Inventory Cost Accountant
We’re seeking a detail-driven Inventory Cost Accountant to join our team and play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our inventory and cost accounting processes. In this critical role, you’ll support daily operations, month‑end close, and annual audit activities while collaborating across departments to resolve issues, analyze variances, and maintain reliable financial data. This position is based in our Beverly, MA office on a hybrid schedule but we will consider remote candidates based on experience and fit.
Key Results Areas
Daily & On-Demand
- Review and process HBG warehouse feed batches, including issue research:
- Inventory transfers
- Inventory transactions (adjustments)
- Purchasing receipts (standard, consignment, firm items, add landed cost)
- Review, research, and correct general ledger activity.
- Set up, review, and break down freight bills; provide line-item receipts to Accounts Payable.
- Review, process, and receive drop shipments (including landed costs) and forward documentation to AR:
- Emails from Traffic
- Validate drop ship spreadsheet for completeness
- Ensure product costs are accurate.
- Perform ad hoc reporting, research, adjustments, and corrections.
Weekly
- Review and process Lightning Source AOD invoice
- Create, enter, and receive purchase orders in GP for all AOD sale items
- Post daily sales batches impacted by AOD transactions
- Review and process unprocessed HBG transaction report
- Research and correct items rejected from HBG feed
Month-End
- Perform inventory variance analysis for non-consignment and consignment warehouses; recommend adjustments as needed.
- Reconcile purchase and freight clearing accounts to the general ledger.
- Create Negative Inventory batch, send to IT, and post correction batch.
- Prepare and invoice consignment billings throughout the month.
- Create consignment and eBook accrual spreadsheets.
- Prepare, create, enter, and receive POs; prepare and invoice POD billings throughout the month.
Year-End
- Assist Manager with annual audit for all inventory items:
- Prepare reports and reconciliations
- Pull test/sample items

Required
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to understand cross-functional impact of transactions.
- Highly detail-oriented with strong initiative; able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
Education and Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience as an Inventory or Cost Accountant.
- Experience with MS Dynamics GP preferred.
- Advanced MS Excel proficiency required.
- Experience analyzing cost-related data.
- Publishing industry experience a plus, but not required.
