Bachelor's or Master's degree in Special Education, active Special Education Teacher license and minimum 1+ years Special Education Teacher experience required. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered.
A full-time Special Education Teacher position is available to support K-12 students with diverse learning needs in a resource room setting. This opportunity is based in Portsmouth, NH, offering a contracted role for the full school year. The role involves approximately 35 hours per week, serving a caseload primarily consisting of students with moderate disabilities across various categories, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), life skills needs, behavioral disabilities (BD), learning disabilities (LD), and more.
The position focuses on providing specialized instruction primarily in a resource classroom with some push-in services integrated into the general education environment. There is also potential for involvement in a life skills program, which could be shared with resource room responsibilities, depending on the candidates experience and interests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to the needs of K-12 students with moderate to varied disabilities.
- Collaborate closely with general education teachers to provide push-in support and accommodations.
- Monitor and document student progress, adapting instructional strategies to foster academic and social growth.
- Manage classroom behavior using effective, research-based techniques suited to students unique needs.
- Communicate regularly with parents, guardians, and colleagues to ensure a team approach to student success.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid state certification in Special Education.
- Experience working within resource or self-contained classrooms serving students with moderate disabilities.
- Familiarity with managing a caseload of students presenting ASD, life skills challenges, behavioral disorders, and learning disabilities.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary team.
