POSITION:Facilities Manager
LOCATION:Emerson Colonial Theatre -Boston, MA
HOURS: Full-time; some nights, weekends, and holidays required per performance schedule
COMPENSATION: $68,000 - $74,000
ABOUT THE POSITION
- Reporting to the Deputy General Manager, the Facilities Manager serves the primary function of establishing and maintaining operational and custodial standards commensurate with a high-traffic, architecturally unique, and world-class performance facility.
- Provide direct supervision to the Facilities Management Assistant and serve as the primary point of contact for a third-party custodial team.
- Conduct daily inspections of facility spaces to ensure high standards of appearance, safety, and readiness are maintained.
- Develop a general knowledge of the building’s HVAC and MEP systems and support the operation of these systems.
- Perform repair jobs relating to doors, ceilings, floors, glass, walls, handrails, lighting fixtures, paint, etc.
- Receive deliveries, including food and beverage inventory, cleaning products, Playbills, etc.
- Complete supplemental cleanings of the theatre, lobbies, restrooms, common areas, and support spaces, including vacuuming, trash removal, stocking paper products, and sanitization of restrooms as needed.
- Represent the venue in quarterly inspections with the Boston Fire Department, as well as other quarterly, bi-annual, and annual municipal inspections.
- Collaborate with General Management on the planning and completion of capital improvement projects.

- The Facilities Manager leads one full-time employee and several third-party custodial team members. A successful candidate will demonstrate investment in the professional success of others.
- The Facilities Manager works with all departments, most closely with General Management, Customer Experience, and Production.
- This role works closely with third-party vendors and contractors.
- With exceptional hospitality at the forefront of everything we do, the Facilities Manager will often interact with artists and guests during performances.
- The Emerson Colonial Theatre is the longest continually operating theatre in Boston, MA. In its storied history, the Emerson Colonial Theatre has debuted such seminal Broadway shows as Porgy and Bess, Oklahoma!, Carousel, Candide, Follies, La Cage aux Folles, and Grand Hotel among others. In 2018, the Colonial went through an extensive renovation that positioned it to expand programming and host all types of live events at a mid-capacity level (1,600+ seats). EXPERIENCE and SKILLS
- Prior experience in facilities maintenance and handy work required
- General preventative maintenance experience required
- Basic understanding of building systems including HVAC, fire protection/detection systems, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical strongly preferred
- Project management experience a plus
- Knowledge of historic buildings a plus
- Experience or understanding of working with unions preferred but not required
- Experience in entertainment and/or hospitality related fields appreciated, but not required
COMPETENCIES
- Ability to prioritize effectively and exercise sound judgement in a busy environment
- Strong time management skills and ability to work independently
- A desire to work collaboratively across departments is required
- Because of the physical nature of the position, must be able to regularly sit, stand, and stoop; push and pull with force; climb ladders and stairs; and be able to lift heavy boxes, bags, and other containers up to 50 pounds
