FIFA World Cup™ Boston 26 (Boston 26) is the host city organizing committee leading the strategic planning and execution of the seven matches of the FIFA World Cup 26™ awarded to Boston, including the official celebratory events taking place over a 39-day period surrounding the tournament. ABOUT THE ROLE:
The Wayfinding and Signage Director will be responsible for the strategic planning, development, and delivery of a comprehensive wayfinding and signage program across the Boston 2026 FIFA World Cup event. This critical role involves oversight of the planning, design, and delivery of all wayfinding elements across the city, working in close partnership with vendors, contractors, and internal teams to ensure seamless execution. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that the Wayfinding program aligns with Boston 26's brand objectives, enhancing both the spectator experience and the event's overall success.

This role requires a strong combination of strategic thinking, project management, and hands-on leadership. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in managing complex programs, ideally in large-scale events, urban planning, or related fields, and have a proven track record in overseeing large vendor teams and managing diverse stakeholders.

Location:Onsite in Foxborough, MA with frequent local travel and occasional regional travel.Type/Term:Full-Time, exempt, 40hrs/wk. through late Summer 2026, when position would end.Reports to:VP of OperationsSalary Range:$145,000-$160,000; depending on experience.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Wayfinding, Signage, & Project Development

  • Develop and implement the overarching wayfinding and signage strategy for all venues and key locations (e.g., airports, Celebration sites, Last Mile, transport hubs, etc.).
  • Coordinate with internal teams to ensure signage aligns with spatial layouts and crowd flow plans.
  • Ensure the integration and collaboration with relevant partners and agencies for proper permits, permissions and licenses.
  • Determine the delivery partner model, ensuring effective contracting with vendors for design, construction, installation, and maintenance.
  • Manage the selection and oversight of vendors and contractors for the delivery of wayfinding services including recycling of materials and use of sustainable practices.
  • Prepare and organize documents, reports, presentations, and other materials.
  • Define signage hierarchy and categorization (directional, identification, regulatory, branding, etc.) in line with brand guidelines and accessibility standards.

Project Management:

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of the signage program, including scoping, budgeting, scheduling, production, installation, maintenance, and removal.
  • Develop project plans, timelines, and oversee project execution from inception to completion.
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, suppliers, and contractors—overseeing procurement, contracts, and performance.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to ensure accurate implementation and quality control.
  • Oversee vendor contracts, ensuring compliance with agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Act as the primary point of contact between Boston '26 and vendors, facilitating smooth communication and effective collaboration.
  • Ensure that all materials and designs align with Boston '26’s brand identity.
  • Identify and mitigate risks, issues, and obstacles to ensure project success

Delivery and Execution:

  • Assess and evaluate the effectiveness of current Wayfinding elements, recommending opportunities for optimization and supplemental signage.
  • Establish a comprehensive wayfinding program including undertaking a detailed review of the spectator, stakeholders and staff pedestrian and vehicle flow planning.
  • Lead the on-site signage team during the event period, troubleshooting issues and managing real-time adjustments.
  • Plan and execute a post-event decommissioning and signage reuse/recycling strategy.


WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • 10+ years of related wayfinding & signage experience; ideally with major international sporting events (e.g., Olympic Games, FIFA World Cup, Commonwealth Games).
  • A strong understanding of the permitting, regulations and laws related to signage and knowledge of event overlay, crowd dynamics, and emergency wayfinding protocols.
  • Leadership and Team Coordination: Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and collaborate across departments to achieve shared goals in fast-paced environments.
  • Problem-Solving Under Pressure: Strong critical thinking skills with a track record of resolving complex challenges under tight deadlines.
  • Communication and Negotiation: Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence and align diverse stakeholders.
  • Stakeholder Management and Integration: Experienced in working with internal teams, government agencies, and external vendors to deliver cohesive, high-quality outcomes.
  • Attention to Detail and Quality Assurance: Committed to excellence, with a sharp eye for detail in both planning and execution.
  • Adaptability and Multitasking: Demonstrated flexibility and efficiency in managing multiple concurrent projects and priorities in dynamic, high-pressure settings.
  • Wayfinding and Branding Knowledge: Strong understanding of signage systems, urban design, and the integration of branding in temporary and permanent environments.
  • Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with design and drafting tools such as AutoCAD and Adobe Creative Suite; strong command of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strategic Execution: Ability to balance big-picture planning with hands-on execution, ensuring alignment between vision and implementation.
  • Organizational Excellence: Exceptional time management, organization, and prioritization skills.


Please Note: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States without visa or sponsorship, and must be within reasonable commuting distance of Foxborough, MA.

WORK EXPECTATIONS:

  • Full-time, onsite, 40hr per week role that may require occasional evening and weekend work. Local and regional travel is expected on occasion. Work hours will fluctuate and include activity outside normal business hours during tournament time (June-July 2026).
  • This role is estimated to conclude in early Fall of 2026.
