The Paramedic Field Training Officer (FTO) Coordinator job description shall include all aspects of the Emergency Medical Technician job description, as applicable, with the addition of administrative, supervisory, and program oversight responsibilities.

The Paramedic FTO Coordinator is responsible for the coordination, scheduling, oversight, and quality assurance of the EMT and Paramedic Field Training Programs. This position ensures new EMT and Paramedic employees are appropriately trained, evaluated, and progressed through the Field Training process, from third rider orientation through second seat operation and final clearance for independent duty, based on documented performance and FTO evaluations.

To ensure Cataldo Ambulance Service maintains a well-prepared and well-trained workforce capable of providing an outstanding experience to those who request our services, the Paramedic FTO Coordinator shall oversee the use of EMT and Paramedic Field Training Officers to prepare new employees to function efficiently and effectively within the organization. The Paramedic FTO Coordinator promotes and reinforces the core behaviors, professionalism, accountability, and clinical excellence expected of all employees.

Key Responsibilities

Program Oversight and Administration

· Oversees the EMT and Paramedic Field Training Programs to ensure consistency, effectiveness, and compliance with company policies, statewide protocols, and standards of care

· Develops, maintains, and updates EMT and Paramedic FTO program guidelines, evaluation tools, and training benchmarks in collaboration with Clinical and Operations Leadership

· Serves as the primary point of contact for all matters related to EMT and Paramedic field training FTO Supervision and Support

· Supervises, mentors, and supports EMT and Paramedic Field Training Officers in the execution of their training responsibilities

· Ensures EMT and Paramedic FTOs function as mentors and role models consistent with company expectations

· Provides feedback, coaching, and corrective guidance to EMT and Paramedic FTOs as needed

· Participates in the selection, training, and ongoing development of EMT and Paramedic FTOs Scheduling and Trainee Progression

· Schedules new EMT and Paramedic hires to ride third with assigned FTOs during the initial phase of field training

· Coordinates progression of EMT and Paramedic trainees from third rider to second seat based on documented performance

· Adjusts training schedules as necessary to meet operational needs and address performance concerns

· Ensures appropriate unit assignments and FTO coverage based on trainee needs and level of certification Evaluation, Documentation and Clearance

· Reviews daily EMT and Paramedic FTO reports, third rider documentation, and performance evaluations for accuracy, completeness, and consistency

· Tracks trainee progress for both EMTs and Paramedics and identifies trends, strengths, deficiencies, or need for remediation

· Determines trainee readiness for advancement through each phase of the Field Training Program

· Recommends clearance from the EMT or Paramedic FTO program, extension, remediation, or termination based on documented performance

· Communicates clearance decisions to Operations and Clinical Leadership Quality Improvement and Communication

· Promotes a culture of professionalism, accountability, and clinical excellence across EMT and Paramedic Field Training Programs

· Ensures timely and complete submission of all required EMT and Paramedic FTO and trainee documentation

· Participates in quality improvement initiatives related to training, safety, and patient care

· Attends required meetings to review program priorities, strategies, and outcomes

· Serves as a liaison between new EMTs, Paramedics, FTOs, supervisors, and leadership

Operational and other Duties

· Maintains knowledge of and compliance with all company policies, procedures, and guidelines

· Maintains reliable attendance and professional conduct

· May perform field observation or ride-alongs as needed

· Completes other duties as assigned

Education

· High school diploma or GED equivalent.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

· Current Paramedic Certification

· Current valid driver’s license

Experience

· 3+ Years of previous experience as a Paramedic Field Training Officer

· Demonstrated ability to evaluate performance across multiple certification levels

· Experience with computer systems required, including web-based applications and some Microsoft Office applications preferred.

Requirements

· Must be 18 years of age

· Ability to meet the essential duties and physical, mental and sensory requirements of the position at all times.

· Comply with UDS drug screening at any and all times

· Satisfactory background check and MA CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information), verification required annually.

· Verification of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record, verification required annually.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met and maintained by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The position requires significant physical strength, dexterity and the ability to function in very adverse environments.

This job requires:

· Ability to lift and maneuver 125+ pounds with assistance and without difficulty

· Ability to ascend/descend stairs repeatedly and the ability to lift and carry 125+ pounds up and down stairs

· Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time

· Ability to walk without difficulty and without affecting the immediate performance of job-related duties.

· Ability to bend, stoop and crawl as necessary

· Ability to occasionally work in low light and confined spaces

· Ability to work within a mobile environment.

This job requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid and dry conditions. The employee is frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials.
