Reports to: Chief Financial Officer
Salary Range: 140,000 to 185,000 annually
Position Overview
The Controller is a key financial leader responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting, forecasting, and audit management within a multi location retail organization. This role ensures accuracy, compliance, and efficiency across all financial processes while supporting strategic decision making and leading the accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and IFRS
- Manage the general ledger, account reconciliations, and financial close processes
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes across the organization
- Analyze financial data to identify trends, cost drivers, and savings opportunities
- Ensure regulatory compliance and manage financial and 401k audits
- Oversee external tax filings in partnership with outside accounting firms
- Design, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and treasury functions
- Support other departments with financial reporting, analysis, and decision support
- Serve as system administrator for Great Plains accounting software
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
- Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff
- Lead special projects as needed based on business requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or CMA preferred
- 7 or more years of progressively responsible finance or accounting leadership experience
- Experience in retail, multi location, or consumer facing environments preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and regulatory compliance
- Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis
- Proficiency with auditing processes and external audit coordination
- Familiarity with taxation requirements and filings
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills
- Proficiency with Great Plains software
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem solving skills
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities
Other Details
- Full time position, Monday through Friday
- Peak business periods may require extended hours
