The Business Manager is the backbone of DREAMs financial and operational systems, ensuring that our mission-driven work is supported by strong, transparent, and efficient financial practices. This role manages payroll, benefits, reconciliations, and expense oversight, while working closely with the Boards Finance Committee, Development, and Program teams to ensure DREAMs financial health and integrity.
This position requires a detail-oriented and proactive professional who can balance daily operational responsibilities with big-picture financial stewardship. The Business Manager will oversee financial systems that keep DREAM running smoothly and in-compliance, and will provide essential reporting to ensure the organization can make prudent and informed decisions.
This is a highly collaborative role, with substantial support from the Board Finance Committee, Executive Team, and staff across the organization. Ongoing teamwork and communication are core to success, as is the ability to translate financial insights into actionable recommendations that advance DREAMs mission and growth.

Overview of Responsibilities of the Business Manager
Financial Management
- Oversee bookkeeping, bank reconciliations, and accounts payable/receivable
- Prepare financial reports and grant spending analyses for leadership and the Finance Committee.
- Manage payroll and benefits, including retirement contributions, grant splits, and annual renewals.
- Ensure compliance with filings such as charitable registrations and 1099s.
Strategic & Operational Leadership
- Monitor cash flow and program spending to align with organizational goals.
- Analyze financial data to inform decisions and improve efficiency.
- Maintain Aplos for accurate reporting, grant tracking, and contact management.
- Recommend and implement financial process improvements.
Expense & Compliance Oversight
- Administer payables and reimbursements via Bill.com and serve as an internal control for all invoices.
- Oversee various regional funding initiatives and company debit card use, ensuring receipts, documentation, and compliance.
- Conduct detailed program spending analyses to support budgeting of programs in different regions
- Support annual audits and ensure adherence to regulatory and funder requirements.
Assets and Services
- Subscription Services: Manage accounts for DREAMs organizational subscriptions, including technology platforms, employee assistance programs (EAP), and other contracted services.
- Fleet Management: Oversee the administration of DREAMs passenger van fleet, ensuring compliance with maintenance, registration and inspection schedules.
- Equipment & Gear: Maintain and track DREAMs gear inventory, including purchasing, storage, usage, and replacement planning.
Preferred Qualifications/Experience
- Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 1+ years of nonprofit, financial management, or accounting experience.
- Proficiency with financial systems (Aplos or Quickbooks preferred; experience with Bill.com and payroll platforms a plus).
- Familiarity with grant accounting and restricted fund management.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with accuracy.
- A collaborative spirit with a commitment to DREAMs mission.
Type of Work / Expected Commitment
This is a full-time, salaried, overtime-exempt position. The position will average 3545 hours per week with occasional evenings or weekends for committee meetings and retreats. Participation in quarterly multi-day organizational retreats is required.
Compensation & Benefits
Total compensation value: upwards of $72,100, including:
- Salary range commensurate on experience ($58-62,000), overtime exempt.
- Group medical insurance for the employee paid at 100% of VT plan for 2025.

Work Environment
This position operates in both in-office and remote environments. The Business Manager will use computers, phones, and financial software systems regularly to ensure accurate and timely reporting. Occasional travel to organizational retreats and in-person team meetings is required.
