Responsibilities
This position provides transition services for at-risk high school students with disabilities. The services being provided use an experiential and competency-based approach to help students gain the employment, academic and independent living skills needed to successfully transition to adulthood.
- Conduct presentations, workshops and trainings on employment and transition, and instruct day-to-day academic activities.
- Recruit new students within each regional high school
- Develop new ELO's (extended learning opportunities) to respond to identified student needs.
- Participate in regional teams to coordinate, review, and evaluate all aspects of the program and assess process effectiveness and academic rigor.
- Coordinate work exposures with employers, schools, students, and families.
- Support each student in taking action on their current and future career and education paths.
- Support students with their independent living needs.
- Provide support to work site activities as needed. Travel throughout the state is a required as needed.
Other Responsibilities:
- Participate in general GSIL events and activities.
- Maintain professional knowledge/skills by reviewing professional literature and attending trainings/workshops.
- Support and uphold GSIL policies and procedures, workplace regulations and safety practices.
- Share newsworthy information appropriately throughout the organization.
- Conduct other duties as assigned that will increase options for persons with disabilities to live independently in their communities.
Education/Training/Experience:
- College graduate preferred.
- Teaching/instruction experience required.
- Experience working with adolescents, at-risk youth or high school students with disabilities.
- Ability to drive a 13-passenger vehicle.
- Ability to convey a variety of diverse thoughts and ideas to learners of varying academic levels and learning styles.
- Ability to work in dynamic and high stress environment with flexibility and focus.
- Ability to see the best in all students and assist each in "creating themselves"
- Knowledge of career development assessment software and processes.
- Knowledge and/or personal or professional experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.
- Knowledge of special education law, accommodations and modifications as related to IEPs and 504s preferred.
- Google Suite including Google Classroom; Docs; Sheets; Slides; Forms, and Gmail.
- Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and various templates.
Physical/Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this position, the individual is regularly required to sit, use a computer, a telephone, and other office equipment and to move throughout the building and attend outside meetings. Employee may occasionally need to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift carry, push or otherwise move objects (e.g. files or presentation materials). This position requires the ability to express or exchange ideas and to comprehend and present detailed and critical information including
but not limited to financial information. Exceptional judgment and creativity are regularly required to evaluate results and make decisions.
