About the Role:

The Veterinary Assistant at Meredith Place plays a critical role in supporting veterinary professionals in delivering exceptional care to animal patients. This position involves assisting with clinical procedures, maintaining a clean and organized environment, and ensuring the comfort and safety of animals during their visit. The assistant will be responsible for preparing treatment areas, handling animals with compassion and care, and facilitating communication between veterinary staff and pet owners. By efficiently managing these tasks, the Veterinary Assistant helps optimize the workflow of the hospital and contributes to positive patient outcomes. Ultimately, this role is essential in providing high-quality urgent care veterinary services in a fast-paced and demanding environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience or formal training as a veterinary assistant or in a related animal care role.
  • Basic knowledge of animal anatomy, behavior, and common medical procedures.
  • Ability to handle animals safely and compassionately.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in an urgent care veterinary setting.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and veterinary software systems.
  • CPR and first aid certification for animals.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage stressful situations calmly and efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain treatment rooms, surgical instruments, and medical equipment to ensure a sterile and organized environment.
  • Handle and restrain animals safely and humanely during examinations and procedures.
  • Monitor and record vital signs and patient information as directed by veterinary staff.
  • Clean and sanitize animal housing areas, kennels, and hospital facilities to maintain infection control standards.
  • Communicate effectively with pet owners to provide updates and instructions regarding their pets’ care.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and notify supervisors when restocking is needed.
  • Support emergency response efforts by quickly preparing equipment and assisting with urgent patient care.

The Veterinary Assistant utilizes strong interpersonal skills daily to interact compassionately with both animals and their owners, ensuring a supportive environment.
